August 14, 2017 at 4:55 pm #70569I made a copy of the drivers that came with i7 Book Windows, then changed ssd to a new one, installed Windows 10 Home and all drivers. Everything seems to work ok except usb-c port. Charging through usb-c works fine, but the problems begin when I connect a hub (description of used hardware is below):
- hub doesn’t work at all (not even usb 3.0 part) unless the usb-c on hub is connected to power (since all tested hubs have Power Delivery it means that tablet is charging all the time when hub is connected)
- even with usb-c of hub connected to power the behavior is random – when plugging in the hub to tablet sometimes it works ok, sometimes only usb 3.0 ports work, sometimes I get a message “try to improve usb-c connection quality”, sometimes nothing works
- HDMI output works only from time to time, i.e. I have to unplug and plug the hub again few time for HDMI to work. Once it starts to work it is stable, i.e. I had it run for few hours several times and signal wasn’t dropping
Cube i7 Book is my first laptop with usb-c, so maybe my expectations are wrong, but I thought that the hub should work without power connected to it – is this correct? I don’t like having power connected all the time because it’s bad for the batter and means the hub is useless if I’m traveling.
Could someone please share their experience with i7 Book and usb-c hubs? Maybe there are some additional drivers I should install or do some configuration?
Here is the hardware I used (in all possible combinations), but the behavior is always as described above, so the problem seems to be on i7 Book’s side:
- Aukey usb-c hub
- Bqeel usb-c hub
- Anker usb-c hub
- Lumsing charger with two different usb-c cables from different companies
- Nintendo Switch charger
August 17, 2017 at 12:42 pm #70716Hi. I asked this question to Gearbest, my supplier of the Cube i7 Book:
“I bought a USB-C to HDMI MHL adapter, which is not working. Is the Cube i7 book’s USB-C suitable for imaging the screen on an external monitor via HDMI through the USB-c port?”
And I got the following answer from Gearbest:
“Sorry, the Cube i7 book’s not support imaging the screen on an external monitor via HDMI”
Moreover, I cannot charge the tablet through USB-C with chargers up to 2A.
It looks to me that the USB-C port is a very weak point for this tablet.
August 17, 2017 at 10:28 pm #70734Hi,
I have no problem to charge my tablet with the Nintendo Switch charger and an Ivoler 75w charger.
For the usb type-c Hub, I got originally the Aukey one and it was awful from day one with a lot of hdmi disconnection & sound skipping during movies.
I got the following one: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B06XDMFSPB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don`t have any problem with it since, i tried it on two screens and nothing to report.
My only beef is my tablet stop charging if it becomes too hot, i may do a thermal mod for that….
August 17, 2017 at 10:51 pm #70735Thank you for suggestions, I will try the hub you found.
I have done a simple version of the thermal mod (just adding big thermal pad between the piece of aluminum covering cpu and the back of tablet case) and so far I didn’t notice any problems with charging. The downside of the mod is that under stress the back gets pretty hot (much to hot hold in hands).
August 21, 2017 at 6:46 pm #70850I just tested the usb-c hub recommended by Bobo (Ricorich hub), but unfortunately it doesn’t work for me – HDMI doesn’t work and tablet isn’t charging. USB 3 devices work (if power is connected to hub), but that’s all. @elbobo did you install some additional drivers or done some configuration?
