Hi,
A hard one, because the X5 Z8300 is not so great at games and the X98 Pro’s X5 Z8500 is a better choice for gaming. However, since you say it’s for your wife and she will mainly use it for facebook and emails, a hardware keyboard dock that the Hi10 supports is definitely much better and the USB 3.0 port.
I just got my Chuwi Hi10 dock and if you have seen the ASUS Transformer Book T100 series it’s exactly the same. Not as high of quality but still not too bad. I’ll have a video review and photos of the dock up on the site soon. Just uploading the 3.8GB video of it.
The Hi10 screen isn’t bad, over I think it’s a great tablet for everything but gaming. And Banggood have both in stock https://www.banggood.com/search/chuwi-hi10.html

I am looking forward to your take on the keyboard dock and that just may make the difference!
Regards.

I got from here http://www.banggood.com/Bluetooth-Keyboard-for-Chuwi-Hi10-Tablet-p-1029045.html after Aliexpress failed to deliver yet again with promises to ship that didn’t happen after 2 weeks. Over all I like it, 10.1 inches so a little smaller than a normal sized keyboard and it will take a little to adjust too. But overall the build quality is good for what it is.

A quick question, can the tablet be placed in the dock ‘backwards’ (facing away) in order to simply use it as a stand or even closed to view only the tablet function?

Yes and no. It can be turned around, but it will not latch into the dock. But just sit there, so it could be used as a stand but not it’s not secured to it.
