The Mix Plus is far faster Core M3 vs N3450. So better for gaming, even if just Heroes of the Storm the Core M3 will be a good 2 x faster. However, it will get hot. so my copper heatsink mod is recommended.

The benefits the SurBook has over the Mix plus are the following:

    • Kickstand
    • Better build
    • much better battery life. The SurBook should get 7+ hours. (Mix plus around 5 only)
    • Far superior screen
    • Larger screen
    • Two full sized USB 3.0 ports

    The Mix Plus

    • Cheaper
    • Much Faster
    • SSD and it’s upgradable (Faster than the eMMC in the Surbook)
    • WACOM Stylus support
    • Lighter
    • Type-C USB 3.1

Hey Chris, many thanks for your detailed answer. I’m actually leaningslightly towards the SurBook due to the display and the design.

Since I have absolutely no experience with mobile CPUs, how awful or viable is the N3450 for light gaming (2D/indie, MOBA, old RPGs)? If I can get HotS to 40ish FPS on low settings it would be enough for me to be frank. Google didn’t really help me find a decent answer to that, or my Google-Fu is just too weak 🙁

Well it all depends on the config of the N3450. If they have powerlimts set high or low and RAM speeds. But most for example, so around 30-40 frames per second low settings on older games like counter strike.

The Civiltop Air gets around 50-60 as it has no power limits. My guess is the Surbook will do around 30-40 fps low res and lowest settings.

Well, N3450 is coming with better clock speed while its lack on the support of newest direct x.  Both of them are using 14 nm technology, so i guess that there is no problem on the efficiency. Are you sure that you want to use it for gaming? Remember it is fanless and it could get hot pretty easily. I do not really recommend this kind of tablet for gaming.

No, if you really want to game, something with a dedicated GPU is always better of course.Maybe a 1050 TI laptop?

Yeah, I’m fully aware of that. I’ve built a dedicated gaming PC for the more demanding stuff at home. At home I’ll be using it for light internet browsing on the couch, listening to music or podcasts (with a BT speaker) while cooking or watching YT/Netflix videos at my desk while working or gaming on the PC. So I’m perfecly happy with a portable 10″ screen here. Even the N3450 would be more than enough for that.

However, I’m away from home a couple of times a month and I love a 2-in-1 tablet for its portability. I can’t fit a “real” laptop in my luggage and found the Surface RT to be the perfect fit size-wise. The only thing I was missing was the ability to run a few light games when I’m abroad for a bit longer and I’m craving a bit of a gaming fix. As I’ve said, just maybe half an hour of Heroes or Diablo3 to wind down after work. I’ve since watched your review of the Chuwi Hi13, and since te SurBook seems to be a prettier Hi13 I’m not quite sure if the N3450 can handle that… it’s so pretty though 🙁

Diablo 3 it doesn’t handle too well, I remember testing that one and quite disappointing even on low settings.

Without the thermal mod the Cube Mix Plus will also get into the 90 degree C++ mark playing games like DIII

I would focus on teh N3450, if its about portability it wins with much better battery life.
