Its a Mediatek based device. They have a reputation for dodgey GPSs… Long Times to get locks. Accuracy issues.

You can remedy this. There are apparently fixes. Certain location files.

    I have a MT6595 based ZOPO ZP999.

    Which is a similar generation.

Support on the Cube probably a pit better. Mediatek based devices have been pretty bad for releasing g source code.

So don’t be surprised if you can’t upgrade to android 6.0

That being said they’re usually root able. Check out XDA developers.

I do like the engineering g mode on Mediatek. this is the one real thing going for it. You can easily. get into it and it allows you to Switcb on/off THE bands available to your mobile.

I forget your frequencies available. in Canada. But for example.

Generally lower frequencies have better building penetration.Eg 850/900 MHz generally penetrates better than 2100.

But my Mobile carrier’s licence in 900 is only 5mhz

in 2100 it’s 20 MHz. So they tend to have a bias to shift me o to 2100mhz to reduce network congestion.

But this doesn’t help battery drain if my signal is shitty.

Likewise the reverse. If for some reason I’m on 900 (which Engineering mode won’t prove unless 2100 is off…) the speed tests confirm & I want greater speed…

I haven’t seen such good engineering mode since Samsung Note 3/S4 and before.

    EXPOSED MODULE.

Find out how to Install It. Lots of customisabilty. Do it.

If you’re going to flash/install TWRP the device ( I believe there was a standard version of the T8?)

DO NOT mix your versions up the 4G version version.

You may brick your device OR lose your IMEI in which case you have an 8 inch tablet with no phone call or 3/4G ability.

Let us know how you go.

Well darn I got it to use mostly as a GPS/Tablet in my car… unfortunately I’ve discovered the memory partition problem in the firmware it came with. So a few apps and downloading the offline maps for my area basically filled up all my space for apps.

I’m in the USA on Verizon so this phone is incompatible with my service as I understand it… Which is fine, I was prepared for wifi only. The newest firmware was real hard to find on the chinese language site, and I had to manually google translate a lot of the text because for some reason google translate on my chromebook wouldn’t auto translate, so that sucked.

The firmware problem is a killer though, and I’ve never rooted or flashed stuff to a phone or tablet so even now that I have the right firmware file I think, and even after reading about it on XDA, I’m a bit afraid to try upgrading the firmware myself.

Any chance Cube will do an OTA for USA users?

    How’d you go with it?

Flashing Mediatek devices is pretty easy if you can work out the button combinations to get them into recovery.

That and I seem to recall it being very very fussy when it came to which USB port it was originally connected to. If you swapped it after the drivers were installed… Either that or it conflicts with other phone utilities.

I had to use a driver remove utility – or usb rem for oval tool or something (sorry this is from memory).

There is a GPS fix for mediatek… I kinda fixed mine… Then I ruined it again.

    Firmware OTA? Android 6.0

    I doubt it.

Device manufacturers are shocking at long term support of their devices.

Mediatek based devices are particularly bad. Given Mediatek/Manufacturers generally don’t release source code not even 3rd parties can develop.

    ****

Oh just don’t flash the WRONG firmware given there’s multiple versions of the device.

That is usually an unforgiving mistake and you will brick your device.
