From what I read the tablet can be rooted already, as seen on Cube Chinese Forums:

    http://bbs.51cube.com/thread-106714-1-1.html

But I don’t have any experience in rooting like that, so I will wait proper english guide to prevent any unnecessary errors. My only root experience is just simply “fastboot boot recovery.img” to TWRP and just flash the supersu ZIP. No strange problems like written on the forum posts.

I sure hope Chris can try it since he have proper hardware flashing tool that can be used to flash it directly in case of brick :).

If anyone want to try, I’ve uploaded the file to another file host, so you doesn’t need to register just to unlock the link.

    Thanks for your answer ??

I never had an Intel Tablet, only Asus devices with Tegra CPU, last was a tf701 but Mainboard is death so im very experienced in rooting this kind of devices also twrp, cwm and supersu is what I know. But there aren’t transformer Style Tablets except Cube or chuwi. Do you recommend a Cube iWork 10 if you had a Tegra 4 devices and Android is your Main OS?

    Thanks for your help

Never had a nvidia tegra devices, sorry. If you strictly using it as Android, I personally prefer buying dedicated Android rather than x86 Android, which not 100% apps and games compatible with x86 architecture. I do have Samsung Note 8, which I feel a bit faster than Cube Android, which is a old devices, probably Cube Android is not really optimized to use all the resources efficiently.

Anyway, Cube tablet is relatively cheap even compared to another Android tablet. If you don’t want to face various problem on this tablet (see another threads), I don’t recommend it. I frequently use Windows and Android, so I prefer dual boot tablet. Android just for playing games and watching Youtube, productivity task on Windows.

Ok but I don’t see any alternativ device if I would like to have a transformer style type.

Sony z4 is to expensive, Google Pixel C too and other brands don’t have Keyboards.

I’ll use mainly Android for Games GTA, Z, etc, Youtube, watching movies and browsing Web, Email etc.

So I hope it’s rootable and fast enough for eg GTA San Andreas, Liberty City Stories or modern combat 3-5 ?

So thank you again for helping me

I think I will try to play San Andreas and other games when I have time. I tried playing GTA V using Moonlight, it is unplayable, the packet drop on the Wireless card to too high. I can’t even use the 5GHz since it is not supported by the tablet.  The wireless on the tablet is plain shitty, but good enough for download and watching movies, if you don’t mind random packet drops. Crazy Taxi does run fine without problem.

I also plan to use my PS4 controller, but it seems not detected at the moment, maybe I need to install the SixAxis apps later.

Browsing web using Chrome seems a little slower than browsing on the Windows. Also the text is small, you need to constantly make it zoom it, even when using Google Search. I think any other application that I frequently uses have no problems whatsoever.

Wireless is on Asus tf201 also shitty, on tf701 it was good but Keyboard dock was a pain in the ass always lost connection. GTA V is a monster isn’t it? On play Store are gta’s for Android if they run playable im happy and some RTS like Z Origin or z steel soldiers or xenowerk, space Marshall, NFS, snow Party, Rayman etc ?.

My tf701 scored on antutu about 30k so it isn’t that fast, if iWork 10 beat this or if it’s equal im happy.

Im only concerned about root or custom Rom but Hey lolipop is fine (ok Marshmallow would be better ?)

Thanks for giving a helping Hand to me.

I never experienced keyboard connection loss until now, possibly the keyboard dock pogo pins still new, we will see it over the time, how is the pogo pin quality.

What I mean GTA V is streaming from PC using NVIDIA GameStream, not running it on the tablet. The tablet of course doesn’t have the power to run most PC games. I tried Cities Skylines, it stay at 10fps with empty city, doesn’t even try another games. Definitely a horrible tablet if you want to play PC games. Dota or LOL should be running fine, since it is advertised on the product page anyway.

Yesterday I tried to install few games from pirated app store that included on the tablet, and both GTA San Andreas and GTA III will not run at all. Possibly because it is pirated, so most likely crack problem. I don’t have fast access to the Play Store, so I just use whatever available. Will try again in the future, seems the pirated app store have few interesting games.

Antutu is around 56000. However, I don’t charge it when benchmark and few apps still running on the background such as Chrome and other apps, which I believe not a big problem for a tablet with 4GB RAM running Android. It has 3GB+ free memory space, which is plenty for Android.

Don’t worry, I am also not a good english speaker :).

Seems at the moment there are no way to expand the partition to exclusively use the tablet on Android, since the tablet mainly advertised this is Windows tablet with dual boot capability. I also haven’t found a way to move apps to external micro SD for extra space.

i’m experimenting on rooting this tablet.

so far, i’ve found out that it apparently has dm-verity enabled, which means that if you manage to modify the system partition android will not boot anymore.

gonna do some more experiments tomorrow, hopefully to find a way that does not require some sketchy chinese software

tried the method posted in the chinese forum, obviously it didn’t work. it also makes no sense, seems like crucial steps are missing.

the problem is that the system partition cannot be modified in any way or android will not boot

Maybe the system make a ckeck with something like a secure key like LG did with the G3. But the bumb method did the Trick, maybe someone has the knowledge and time to hack this thing

this tablet needs a systemless root (aka a modified boot.img). problem is that the automatic installer for that is in zip flashable from recovery format, except this tablet doesn’t have a working recovery to flash it from

modifications have to be done manually on the boot image…

    root achieved!

figured out missing parts in the chinese tutorial.

it’s not easy or fast btw, and potentially requires fiddling with partitions. currently i managed to root the i15-T(D) rom, the one with play preinstalled, which is not really suitable for -TL units (mine).

i’ll take a break and then think about how to write a tutorial or something
