On its budget tablets, Chuwi typically supports its proprietary file system and FAT, but not any other file system (e.g.,  exFAT).  Format your 32GB uSD card as FAT and see if your tablet will recognize it.  The Hi8 is also a 2015 design… its SD capacity limit should be at least 32GB, but might be less.

THANKS! I spent way too much time messing with drivers and BIOS settings. The tablet is actually seeing the 64GB card as FAT32.

Edit: “Sees” the card, but I cannot write to it. I’ll have to try the 32GB as FAT32.

I can read the 32GB sd card and files from it, but cannot write to it. When trying to write or format it times out.

Ensure you have write enabled it (you’ve been using both “microSD” and “SD  card”, and SD cards have a write lock-out slider).  If write-enabled, try 16GB in FAT32.  If your Hi8 or Windows won’t format it so that it is R/W, try using an SD format utility.  All SD and uSD interfaces have a max capacity.  The Hi9 max is 128GB, but only with Chuwi proprietary file system.

FAT32 has a partition limit of 2TB… but that requires max size clusters.  FAT 32 only permit 2^^32 addressable clusters, and the deafault cluster size yields the familiar 4GB limit on file size with all clusters addressable.

If your SD card volume won’t mount, it could be due to several issues such as a corrupted file system, incompatible formatting, or hardware problems with the card or the reader. Start by trying the card in different devices or using an alternative card reader to rule out hardware issues. If the card still doesn’t mount, you can attempt to repair it using disk utility tools available on your operating system. In some cases, reformatting the card might be necessary, but this llaollao price will erase all data , so ensure you have backups if possible. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, the card may be damaged beyond recovery.
