I have heard stories about insurance companies offering settlements relatively quickly after serious accidents. While receiving money immediately might seem helpful, I imagine it can be risky when the full extent of an injury is not yet known. How can someone determine whether an offer adequately covers their current and future needs? Is it possible to reopen a claim if complications develop after accepting compensation? What should an injured person consider before signing any settlement agreement?

That quick payout trap is so real. When my brother went through a bad crash a couple of years ago, the adjuster was calling practically every day with a check in hand. We almost took it just to pay off the initial hospital bills piling up. Luckily, a family friend who is a paralegal told us to slow down and look closely at our legal options after a catastrophic injury before signing anything. Once you settle, that is usually it for good. Always wait until doctors give you a final prognosis.
