I work professionally with photo and video and have been thinking of getting the x3 myself as well.

At work i have the surface pro 4 with the m3-6y30 and 4 gigs of ram. It can actually handle the raw files from a 5D III quite good. draggings sliders and doing color adjustments is actually pretty fast. no real time but very managable. Its more distortion type effects that will require more patience. I actually think the x3 would perform better than my surface because of the 8 gigs of ram it has and because the surface has a much higher resolution which drains a lot of power when rendering

Combine it with a wifi sd card and set it to transfer the raw files as you shoot and you have a very descent way of checking your results awhile you are out and then finalising the shots back at the office on your workstation

Thanks for the reply, this helps a lot 😀

I was thinking just to work having a catalog synched via Dropbox or Cloud Station Drive. But only catalog + smart previews to help reduce processor load. It’s amazing that you are able to work decently with raw files with a Surface Pro 4. Having the same processor, I think my initial 2 tablet candidates will do the job as well 😀

I never thought of this tablet as a shooting previewer, and this idea makes me truly happy :DDD

Waiting for a deal/sale with the Cube i9 then, as Chris’ review says is overall a little bit better.

Yeah i use both the surface pro or my galaxy note for previewing all the time. Snap a photo and it pops up on the tablet or phone within seconds. Great if you are alone and want to see the results on a bigger screen and test potential or if you have a guy with you he can sit with the tablet and file the images or do light editing as you go.

Its a great tool to have in the backpack

When dealing with photos and videos, understand how important the fluidity and stability of the device is. I know for sure that memory and persistence play a key role, so I often pay attention to these characteristics when choosing a technique. If I’m using adobe photoshop download, I’ll have access to a full range of tools without restrictions, which will help me edit photos, especially if I need to quickly edit large files.

When talking about tablets for photo editing, I totally get why people focus on screen quality and performance first — Lightroom can be pretty demanding. While testing different setups, I also spent some time looking for tools that don’t slow me down. That’s how I ended up checking out https://skylum.com/blog/polarr-alternative, which actually helped me compare options without getting lost in technical stuff. Not saying it’s the ultimate answer, but it gave me a clearer idea of what works well for quick, smooth edits.
