I recently purchased a Techlast X98 Dual II from Gearbest and am sending it back for three reasons:

    1. Wi-fi is weak. I have a bedroom upstairs and all my other mobile devices can connect to the router from there, except the X98
    2. Speakers are tinny, and system sounds under windows 10 were super loud and distorted, even when the system volume was low
    3. After following their recommendation and resetting the device, windows went into a bootloop

For me, the wifi problem was the only one I couldn’t live with, regardless of the tablet’s price. I’ve looked all over, but wifi strength is not an attribute people typically rate in their reviews (because quite frankly, it shouldn’t be a problem, ever).

Is anyone aware of a dual-boot or windows 10 tablet from China with *spectacular* wifi? I’d love to know if it’s an endemic problem or just an isolated incident.

    Thanks!

Well, I can tell you which dual-boot tablet from China does NOT have spectacular WiFi….the Chuwi Hi8 Pro Dual. I got one last week and its Wifi performance is nothing to write home about. The screenshots below were taken using the Network Signal Info app, while I was sitting in my living room on the 1st floor. My router is about 30′ away in the opposite corner of the house, and 10′ down in the basesement.

Can you guys report what was the wifi NIC (device) that those tablets were using?  Then we can compare them and perhaps find out why they had poor performance.

@ag, probably most important for YOU to know is if the NIC is a separate/discrete card (I think it’s called an M.2 PCI card?) versus soldered onto the motherboard. That way it is changeable.  I believe the vast majority have them soldered on.

How do I find the NIC info? I booted my Hi8 Pro Dual in Win10, Device Manager–>Network adapters shows “Broadcom 802.11n Wireless SDIO Adapter”.
