November 28, 2017 at 9:57 am #75465hi @ammar yasser, im from indonesia.. just want to share my experince buying tablet cube i7 book from gearbest.com for $279, with “free” expedited shipping via DHL (DHL shipping cost is FREE on gearbest site for that tablet), only 3 days my tablet arrived from china to… my country CUSTOMS & they hold it for almost 2 weeks,, they classified it into “red line” because in the invoice the price is printed only $50! (i don’t know that i’ve to message gearbest/seller to make the invoice as is) thats why the customs suspicious for a big tablet shipped via DHL & the CIF only $50 ??? Then i got taxed for about $ 80 for the tablet! (customs make their own version of CIF if they are suspicious). In my case, customs give me the details for the tax: CIF (Cost, Insurance, & Freight) = $325!, & the tax = 25% of CIF = about $80. Plus one more thing… there’s HIDDEN COST that charged by the expedited shipping carrier, DHL charge me another $15 after the package arrived as “packages handling cost” even if you already paid the shipping cost at your checkout. So the total i must pay is 279 (real CIF) + 80 (tax) + 15 (DHL hidden cost) = $374
Another story.. i bought cellphone leagoo m8 pro from gearbest for about $80 using free shipping via netherland post NL,, it takes 40 days to arrive via local post,, but it’s really customs free & the local post only charged me $1 for repackage when the packages arrived.
just info: all import under $50 is customs free,, all import over $50 will be taxed, usually 25% from the Cost + Insurance + Freight (real CIF or.. customs version of CIF)
the conclusion is.. if you use expedited shipping (DHL, UPS, FEDEX, even EMS) it’s looks like you’ll get taxed by the customs & maybe you’ll get another HIDDEN COST for package handling when it arrived, but if you use real free regular ordinary air mail (which takes a month to arrive) then it’s looks like you will really free from any customs tax as long your package CIF in your invoice is not more than $80, or if you can message the seller to make the invoice just about $50 – $80. CMIIW.
