For over a year, I have been struggling to understand the Intel stupid thermal speedstepping. With my previous tablet, it would ignore all temp settings you set and always go to POR and shut down.
So I saw the F5 (bit late to party), its one sexy little laplet. Anyway, got it, backed up stock SSD, did shim mod and then learnt about the RW-Everything.
I thought, ok, lets update SSD, so I researched and got a 1TB. It works great.
Now with the F5, I faced most of the same issues. Thermal settings would not obey, what ever you put there. After weeks of tweaking bios and RW-Everything commands, I now have it the point, where Im getting 28 to 35 FPS in the unigine Heaven Benchmark.
Now considering, untouched stock, you get 15 to 16 FPS. The results are great. Now, I decided to use the stepping to my advantage, as RW-Everything, set GPU to 700MHz all the time. Meaning, no crippling slow downs. The CPU steps to control temp, while GPU continues at 700MHz uninterupted.
While testing, with AAA games, temp never goes much over 80 C. Obviously, we are under no illusion. Its a tablet, so I run everything at 1280×720. Everything works great in that res. Also completely disabling Windows 10 “FULL SCREEN OPTIMISATIONS” helps.
Bottom line, this works great as a gaming / emulation device. I just hope AYA NEO goes into mass production and price reduces as their kicksarter just raised £1.7 million. As I would buy one these to replace my F5.
