I did a dumb thing and tripped when jumping off a train and messed up the screen of my x98 Plus. It is only 3 months old. There are now lines in the middle of the screen so can only see a very small portion each side of them. It still turns on fine and their is no obvious physical damage.

What can I do? Can I replace the screen somehow?

I tried to plug it in to a TV via the mini HDMI but the TV didn’t recognize it. Or maybe I have to push an out to TV button but as I can’t really see the tablet screen I can’t find the button.

Any thoughts appreciated!  And thanks Chris. The whole reason I know about this otherwise fine tablet is because of you. Thanks for taking the time to do your reviews.

Update: I did some searching and see you can buy a digitizer for the Plus for $54-$60. There are not a lot of sellers, maybe because it is relatively new. I can take a computer apart but would be a bit nervous about taking a tablet apart as there are not screws. Anyone done this before? Would you trust that the replacement would make it work good as new?

    Hi,

That’s a broken IPS/IGZO panel . I’m afraid it’s not good news. To fix it’s around 100 in total. Buying the spares from banggood or aliexpress.com I know as I broke an Air III. In the end it was going to cost more than a new Air III (my screen was cracked too).

X98 Plus is more expensive, but you’re looking at least 40-50% cost of a new one to fix. It’s not an easy fix if you haven’t done this before.

Thanks for the reply, even if it is bad news. I looked on aliexpress and found new IPS screen for $80 (seems if I post link I get 403 when hitting submit). Is there anything else I need?

Do you happen to know anyone else who has done this? The price is about 40% of new price so seems worth doing, I like the tablet.

In this case would have a tempered glass screen protector possibly saved is screen from damage, if he had applied one from new?

Just to be clear the screen is not cracked. So it is not the digitizer? It is the IPS underneath right as Chris said right? Which means at least I don’t have to buy two parts, I think.
