I’ve installed Ubuntu on a wide range of desktops and laptops over the years so I went ahead and overwrote the Windows installation on my Hi10 without  checking to see if anyone else had done this. I didn’t like Windows 10, and after it corrupted a USB drive of mine with some important files, I decided it was not a trustworthy system. Just a week or so of using it brought endless notifications that my USB drives needed formatting or had some kind of file system error, which was all an error itself since those drives functioned perfectly under several other OSs.

I found that I should have done some reading before the installation, though I did back up Windows 10 to a micro SD card and created a repair DVD (though I’m not likely to use them).

When the 16.04 install completed it would not proceed past a solid color screen, so I knew enough to bring up GRUB and try nomodeset as I’ve done many times before. 16.04 loaded but only with the most basic features, and its slow.

I don’t want to go back to Windows so this situation is good in the longrun. Ubuntu has never corrupted any disks of mine, internal or external. However I could use some help to get the tablet into a usable condition. I’m hoping also that some updates for 16.04 will iron out a lot of the deficiencies.

Any direct help, suggestions, recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi.

I have a question: you just have created boot USB, connect it to the keyboard, boot tablet and … what? How do you install Ubuntu? Please, tell more.

I used unetbootin with the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS iso and created a bootable USB flash drive. Rather than running Ubuntu off of the USB flash drive I chose to install it directly and overwrote Windows. It does work but needs a lot of improvement with better drivers, configuration and maybe some updates.

Have you tried this yourself? If so what were your results?
