Ubuntu 16.10 freezing regularly -> hard power off needed

I just got the Chuwi Lapbook and while Windows 10 worked well I get several freezes with Ubuntu 16.10.

I know there are several drawbacks like:

• Driver for WiFi needed
• Driver for Bluetooth needed
• No sound (no drivers available)
• No battery indicator

However overall Ubuntu 16.10 with Kernel 4.8.0-32 runs fine until it freezes, only a hard restart can get the laptop out of this mode.
When restarted it freezes immediately again when the Desktop screen is shown and another restart is needed.

The linuxim 4.8.0-32 kernel, which includes the WiFi and Bluetooth driver unfortunately shows the same behavior.

If someone encountered the same problem or has an idea how to solve it please let me know. Otherwise see this as a warning.

It seems to be a general Cherry Trail problem for newer kernels.

The suggested workaround is ti set <tt>intel_idle.max_cstate=1</tt> in the kernel parameters. So far the Lapbook works without freezes since I added this to grub startup routine.

I would try one of Linuxium’s latest Ubuntu disto’s which are modified specifically to work better on Cherry-Trail devices… has added device drivers, etc. http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com.br/2017/01/bleeding-edge-ubuntu-4100-57-kernel.html
If you have the newer Apollo-Lake Celeron version of Chuwi Lapbook I would just try Linux Mint Mate 18.1 (or the Cinnamon desktop version of it)
