So I just tried Ubuntu on my X80 Pro.
Trying it was easy:
– Download the latest image that supports the Z-series Atom chipset in most of these tablets.
– Put it on a USB stick (I use Etcher, a mac app)
– Connect a USB hub to the tablet with mouse, keyboard and the USB stick.
– Turn your tablet on. Press “Del” on your keyboard when you see the Teclast logo.
– You are now in the BIOS. Go to the “boot” tab and click on the name of your USB Stick under ‘override’. It will not boot from your usb stick.
– Wait a while.. First you get a black screen for a minute. Booting from a USB stick is always slow.
– Enjoy Ubuntu!What I have found:
- Nice and responsive.
- Only bluetooth and audio don’t work on my X80 Pro (e6e9) (haven’t tried to fix it)
- In Firefox scrolling by dragging your finger doesn’t work. It just selects text.
- The tablet gets quite hot.
October 6, 2017 at 8:54 pm #73105Which audio device does it have?
Maybe you can fix the audio by setting up UCM config like this guy did on his Chuwi Hi12 Z8350 tablet (it uses audio device bytcht-es8316) https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189261#c97October 11, 2017 at 5:38 pm #73261Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to try that some time.
October 11, 2017 at 11:36 pm #73279If your audio is still not working run the (alsa-info.sh) terminal script:
cd ~/
wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.shthen post the link it generates from uploading the script output to the Alsa Project site. For example:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=b4728674c43fdc403fce719ac054c994eee88cc8May 30, 2018 at 11:03 am #143454@flopflop: Did you install Ubuntu or did you just try it in live mode?
I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04, but the system hangs after the Wifi configuration (I choose not to connect to Wifi).

The X80 is Atom cherry-trail right? I would try respinning the Ubuntu installation ISO as per Linuxium’s “respin script”. It seems he’s updated it for Ubuntu 18.04 … http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/2018/04/fourth-look-at-ubuntu-1804-lts-bionic.html
June 26, 2018 at 10:09 am #144178Yes, it is a Cherry Trail CPU (x5-Z8350 , older ones have x5-Z8300).
Thanks for the link! I will try the atom ISO today.June 28, 2018 at 7:51 am #144216The Linuxium atom ISO (linuxium-atom-ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso) worked better than the normal Ubuntu 18.04. I selected “Install OS” from the boot menu and this failed after the successful Wifi step. Then I tried “Live mode” from the boot menu, worked nicely, but selecting the “Install OS” icon fails after the Wifi step. Finally, I started by hand:
> ubiquity –debug –wireless –pdb does
This failed as before and did not add any debug output.
I will try to resolve this issue here: http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/July 12, 2018 at 11:27 pm #144490The Linuxium atom ISO (linuxium-atom-ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso) worked better than the normal Ubuntu 18.04. This guy has the Chuwi Hi10 Pro which I think is the same Atom cherry-trail CPU as yours and he says Manjaro Linux works, even the touch screen which surprised me… https://forum.manjaro.org/t/touchscreen-chuwi-hi10-pro-working-but-needs-calibration/51363
August 23, 2020 at 2:20 pm #183836I have a Teclast F15 with dual boot Ubuntu 20.14/Windows 10. I a, having problems with the HDMI output under Ubuntu.
With Windows the HDMI output can be set to mirror the laptop screen OK. With Ubuntu the ‘Screen Display’ settings can be set up correctly. Whatever I set them to when I click ‘apply’ they revert back and my second screen is blank. I’m sure it was OK with 18.14 as I connected a projector OK.
August 23, 2020 at 2:21 pm #183837Sorry it should have said ‘With Ubuntu the ‘Screen Display’ settings cannot be set up correctly’
