I think a micro USB 3.0 powered cable cable like this one would allow USB 3.0 hard drives to be connected to the tablet:
You would have to use the micro USB 2.0 supplied cable combined with the above cable in order to provide sufficient power for USB 3.0 hard drives if you do not have the dock.
This problem if it exists on all iWork 10 Ultimate tablets cannot fix fixed with a BIOS or driver update, Cube will have to release a new hardware revision in order to fix this problem.

Using the USB Y cable most likely will work. I just doesn’t have that now, since newer hard drive doesn’t include USB Y cable anymore. I do plan to buy it, but since I already purchase the keyboard dock (it still not available until now), I will wait until I do need the USB 3.0 speed.
Strange, the USB port definitely able to provide 500mA, but with horrible voltage of 4.6V.
BTW, setting the USB xHCI to disabled doesn’t help. Sometimes the USB 3.0 device is still not connected/detected. Few rounds of shut down/restart does help.
Also the USB 3.0 speed doesn’t really impressive, the USB Gigabit Adapter only can pushes around 600Mbps+. However, it can be just my USB Gigabit Adapter is super low quality (I bought it for RMB 67, which has Realtek chip, rather than ASIX)
March 20, 2016 at 12:00 pm #30122Just received my keyboard dock today (after waiting around two weeks). It is heavier than what I thought it would be. It would be very nice if they put extra battery inside there, since most likely they put something inside it to make it heavy.
The keyboard quality is relatively high, quite worth it with the price tag. I do make so many mistake when typing to this keyboard, but that is probably just not get used to 10″ keyboard yet. Since it is just a USB 2.0 hub inside this keyboard, I am planning to open it and solder in USB Nano Wireless to replace the shitty Realtek SDIO wireless.
One big problem is, the hinge is very hard and tight. It is so hard to close and open without the tablet attached, and it is still hard to open when using the tablet to open. Probably over time it will loose enough to make it comfortable. The keyboard also disconnects few times randomly, but should be not a big problem, unless you copying files to the harddisk.
Just as Chris said, the USB Harddisk does work in USB 2.0 port on the keyboard dock.

Hey guys
Just ordered the tablet with the keyboard.
Will these 2 accessories be enough to get gigabit ethernet from the tablet?
March 23, 2016 at 7:59 pm #30609i think so

i think so
Will the microUSB 3,0 be able to power the hub? Or do I need a HUB with for example a USB 2,0 power supply?
March 24, 2016 at 1:11 pm #30727A powered hub might be better as the Micro USB 3 port fails to power 2.5-inch external hard drives.

i think it will power the hub+ethernet just fine, but that does not mean that it will be able to power stuff connected to the hub… perhaps some pendrives but that’s about it
March 25, 2016 at 4:20 am #30792The micro USB 3.0 port can power a USB 3.0 Hub + Gigabit Ethernet, and I’ve tried connecting other low power devices such as Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 and Transcend USB 3.0 card reader without problem. USB Harddisk will not work at either USB2.0 or USB3.0, you need USB Y Cable (not sure yet) or powered hub, it will work connecting it to the dock but only USB 2.0 speed. Connecting phone to the hub definitely will not power or charge the phone, but you can sync your phone without problem.
However, in my unit USB 3 is not stable at all, most of the time will not detect what is connected to the USB 3. So I just don’t use USB 3 function anymore, and connect what I need to the full sized USB port on the keyboard dock without carrying extra USB OTG adapter.
April 11, 2016 at 8:29 pm #33078little update on this one:
my unit is i15-TL and it powers 2.5″ hdds from the usb 3.0 OTG. it dips occasionally to 4.6-4.7V which is slightly below USB specs but very briefly and it doesn’t seem to affect functionality.
however, when using USB 3.0 devices through a USB 3.0 HUB (even a powered one) they just run at 2.0 speeds. weird. gonna investigate on that later
April 13, 2016 at 1:03 pm #33286@Laura .. i am little bit confused .. for sure – on USB 3.0 hub you get just 2.0 speed, but on usb 3.0 otg cable (without hub/power) you get full speed ?
if yes, is it possible to charge tablet from USB 2.0 OTG hub and conect usb3.0 hdd thorough 3.0 OTG Y cable (powered from 2.0 hub) ?
April 13, 2016 at 3:48 pm #33312yest that is the case.
as for the charging through an otg hub, dunno.

Most likely newer revision has USB 3.0 power issue fixed. Hopefully it can be fixed by future BIOS update for mine.
My USB 3.0 port can run on USB 3.0 speed without problem, verified using USBTreeView and speed test using USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet. Most likely your UBS 3.0 OTG Cable is faulty or just loose a bit. Micro USB 3.0 is quite loose on my tablet.
If it is only your hub not detected as USB 3.0, probably that is the problem. Anyway, sometimes my USB 3.0 port will not detect any USB 3.0 device at all, few restart seems bring it to life. Doesn’t really know what is the problem, and I rarely use the USB port since I usually just connect it to the dock.

Charging can only be done on USB 2.0 port, USB 3.0 port will not accept power. If you connect micro USB cable from the USB 3.0 hub to tablet’s micro USB 2.0 port, it will be powered, as long as the USB 3.0 hub is powered externally.
April 14, 2016 at 9:30 pm #33563So it looks like Cube fixed this then. New models will power external HDDs?

actually, i was waiting to do more extensive tests on the port, but i think i’ll risk and say it anyway as i have used the port intensively in the last couple of days.
i think i have good news for you:
i got 4 USB 3.0 OTG cables. 2 of them work and will power external 2.5″ hdds from the usb 3.0 port. 1 of them works but disconnects randomly, the last one just does not work at all.
upon further testing, i concluded that the port is NOT wired as OTG, but rather as host, with the only difference of being micro instead of full size.
so, i am inclined to say that @Chris and @Dlink377 may just have bad cables.
this one seems to be the best, its quite beefy and it’s a tight fit in the port (meaning it’s not loose at all), it’s marked UGREEN on the female connector.
