It may be false economy to buy a cheap hub with PD because as USB-C becomes more widespread the cost of the high power chargers will fall and cheap hubs may not be able to handle it. Saying that I have bought a really nice hub from Aukey (3 x USB3 & RJ45) but the customer facing sales dept do not know if it will take high power charging – they are checking with their tech dept.
@bobo : I am using the iVolver charger advised by Chris with the Aukey hub, it works fine. I am not putting too much stress on the CPU in my daily usage but I guess it should handle it fine : I have never seen any issue, neither with the charger or the hub. Just once the HDMI screen was not detected and I had to unplug it from the hub then plug it back … probably a software issue. no big deal.
I’ve been using http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15758 and other than the C connector is a bit loose (could be the tablet) it works well for USB C power passthrough, HDMI out to a 1440p monitor, and hooked up to a USB 3.0 hub for keyboard/mouse/other. The power is provided by the iVoler charger seen in the review here.
I am afraid of fying my laptop tru dodgy power delivery and therefore decided to just use a normal usb 3 hub via otg and get my hdmi output via a USB to HDMI convertor. Will leave the usb type c exclusively for charging.
