What "proffesional" tablet should I buy?

Hi there!

I was reading around and really could not find easy answer to my question:

Which tablet could be suitable to replace my aging Asus T100?

I need Windows tablet mainly as a speaking tool for my upcoming speaking schedule. I used to create my notes on my Asus, then read them through while preparing minutes before actual speech, sometimes fix something on the fly and then go with it in tablet mode.

But my Asus has only 2GB of RAM and on Windows 10 I can simply open Word and maybe some Firefox tab (with OneDrive, Skype etc hanging in background) to get “low memory” warning. It is seriously underpowered also with 1,3ghz Atom. After 1,5 years of heavy use, dropping and banging (screen replaced etc) it is starting to be undependable. I need rock solid device, that would not bring me sweating when I frantically try to power it on minutes before walking on stage before 200 people.

As my speaking is my secondary occupation, sometimes I need to run small VirtualBox VM with linux in it, while I do not have my main big ThinkPad with me. So 4GB of ram is absolute minimum (8GB would be great, but I do not now if such chinese tablet even exists), I would also need big drive for my VM, in ideal world 256GB. When doing this “office” stuff I need good keyboard and mouse.

I would NOT play any games (so graphics is not important), maybe some internet surfing (but 3G is not a must, I have MIFI modem with 4G already). I would like to be able to hook it to some external monitor (normal 1080p) with HDMI, or maybe DisplayLink USB3.

I was thinking at first about Surface 3 Pro (ideal, big screen for speaking), but in Europe it is crazily overpriced, and now with Surface 4 Pro in my country I would have to pay 1150$ for entry 4GB/128GB model (without keyboard) – that is more than average monthly income in my country. For me it is simply too much for a device that I will use probably no longer than 2 years.

What could I buy from chinese tablets that would meet my needs?

Hmm I would have said Surface Pro 3/4. But maybe the Teclast X16 Pro Z8500 and 4GB of Ram. Or the Chuwi Hi10 when they are released in Mid/late Novemeber.

Tecalst will also have a top spec Atom X7 11.6″ tablet with keyboard dock. However not until December or later and it will no doubt cost over $270.

I would really prefer Core M – What would you say about Cube i7 Stylus that you have praised so much here? Or Teclast X2 Pro?

My main concern is durability though…

Surface 3/4 is for now out of the question – too expensive.

Thanks for your site though – heaps of really useful information and quite unbiased reviews, which is quite difficult to find for chinese products.
