I’m getting ready to move to another apartment and thinking about hiring a professional moving company instead of doing everything myself this time. Before I start contacting companies, I want to understand what really matters. What things should I check before agreeing to work with movers? Are written estimates important or is a quick quote enough? And how do you make sure there are no hidden fees later? Would love to hear what people here usually pay attention to.

Moving is such a headache if you don’t plan ahead. I learned the hard way that a quick phone quote means nothing when they show up. Always get a written estimate that lists every single potential charge like stairs or heavy items. Last summer, I was in a huge rush and luckily found some same day movers NYC who were totally transparent about their hourly rates. Just make sure to read the fine print regarding insurance coverage before signing anything.
