I’ve been looking all over the place for a decent retro-fury style costume because I’m heading to a steampunk-themed festival near Adelaide next month. It’s got this post-apocalyptic flair mixed with Victorian aesthetics, and I really want something that stands out but doesn’t feel like a Halloween outfit. Last time I went, I tried putting something together from secondhand stores, but it just didn’t hold together the way I hoped. I’d love to find a costume that’s already curated with the right details – like corsets, buckles, maybe even some leather or military cuts. Anyone know where I could find something like that locally or from an Aussie seller?

Yeah, I’ve been in the same boat when prepping for the Steampunk & Gaslight Expo in NSW. Finding something that isn’t too costume-y but still gives that strong retro-futuristic energy is weirdly harder than it should be. What helped me was checking out https://australian-steampunk-bazaar.com/ — they’ve got a range of pieces that totally fit the vibe you’re talking about. I ended up grabbing a high-waisted skirt with gear details and a cropped jacket with these badass shoulder accents. It came fast too, and I liked that I could mix and match the pieces with stuff I already owned. Definitely worth a scroll through if you want something with personality.

Just saw this thread by accident and had to smile — didn’t even realize how big the steampunk scene was in Australia until recently. A friend dragged me to a local event in Ballarat last year, and I was genuinely impressed by how creative and detailed people get with their outfits. I didn’t dress up at the time, but now I’m tempted to join in next time. Definitely seems like a community that goes all in with passion and style.
