July 21, 2017 at 7:16 pm #69516Search M5F8 here: http://www.teclast.com/tools/pad/pad.php?t=p
Good luck. When you’re done, please share the Android security patch level. Thanks.
August 3, 2017 at 10:16 am #70050There is an update for M5F8 on the English site (http://www.teclast.com/en/firmware/) dated 2017-07-28.
But the download was not possible at the time I checked due to exceeding dl quota in Dropbox.

Thanks! Hopefully there’s an OTA, or at least some way to install it without resetting everything. I’ll get my Macrium Reflect image ready and check once home.
August 3, 2017 at 11:42 pm #70093I’ve been trying for a few days to download this firmware but every day it says it’s exceeded it’s quota. A bit strange.
I’ve updated Windows 10 to creators update, but did not activate windows before doing so. Now I am unable to activate it as that needed to be done before the update, so I have to reinstall Windows in order to activate it (and would like to upgrade Android as well). However the download doesn’t appear to be working.
Does anyone know of a mirror for this?
Cheers,
Odonadon
August 6, 2017 at 6:34 am #70179Dropbox link finally available! But still no OTA… Can someone install it and verify if Android got updated from May 2016 security patch level? And that the Windows microSD ejecting bug is fixed? Thanks.
August 7, 2017 at 6:21 am #70214Nobody? Well, I decided not to download until the next morning as it was late. Then it became 429 before I finished!
Turns out you can still download this way: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/5mthpw/dropbox_how_to_bypass_error_429/
Use “Save to My Dropbox” and download from desktop. It works better that way, though take note of your free space and delete if needed.
If anyone wants a mirror, please let me know which website. I’ll see what I can do.
August 9, 2017 at 1:04 am #70301Lively crowd I see… Since I’ll probably have to reinstall it anyways, I want to resize the Windows partition. To do that, I looked over the following links:
https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/resize-android-partition-the-easy-way-for-x98-serie/
https://www.pendriveapps.com/hxd-portable-hex-editor/
https://gist.github.com/Alex131089/ebd6a06aacedc3c045b6f31fdf4c829cSo basically I’ve edited the original gpt.bin in HxD by copying line 340 to 360 from gpt_10g.bin, because I want to preserve the original (there are some differences other than size) and only change the 20GB Data partition to 10GB.
Uploading latest firmware to Google Drive right now. It’ll take a while, and I won’t get to installing it myself until tomorrow earliest. If you want the link earlier tonight, please post for once. Thank you.
August 9, 2017 at 6:15 am #70307Well I ran into issues running through the Windows reinstaller. It couldn’t find the “install.wim” file.
So, I manually edited the scripts/main.cmd file:
Search for “installpath”
Replace
FOR /f “skip=8 tokens=3” %%A IN (x:\Output.txt) DO (
IF EXIST %%A:\images\install.txt SET InstallPath=%%A:\images&& ECHO “Found device with images folder and install.txt file”
)with
SET InstallPath=d:
Or whatever drive letter the USB drive with the install.wim gets mapped to. If you get this same error and the bath file stops, try different drive letters until you find the one that has install.wim and install.txt – edit the main.cmd file accordingly
Ran through this installation and can confirm that Windows is activated itself and good to go now.

August 9, 2017 at 7:10 am #70308Also, I ran through the Android updater from this package and turns out it’s exactly the same version than what it shipped with:
6.0.1
Android security patch level: May 1, 2016
Kernel version: 3.14.5
Build: V1.01_20170103
So, after running through the Windows updates and Android updates in this package, I don’t know what the difference is. Doesn’t seem to be any difference.

August 9, 2017 at 3:43 pm #70324Maybe the firmware updates somewhere in the process… And you can just restore a disk image after flashing lol.
But do check if the microSD automatic ejection bug is fixed. I’ll try this anyways, because I want to resize the Windows partition.
Here’s the mirror BTW: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1aujfdH5b4ESFpMcEo3Skh1akU
August 11, 2017 at 4:23 am #70438Hi, the SD auto eject bug is not fixed unfortunately. I cannot see any difference from this “new” firmware release and the old, after upgrading both Windows and Android.

August 11, 2017 at 5:25 pm #70477Is your SD bug only in windows?
If so there is a alternative driver to fix this, using it by my own.
The only thing it reduce the write and reading speed for the SD extremly, but it work…
August 12, 2017 at 12:28 am #70484The Sd is not fixed and I do not think it will be fixed anytime soon.
My recommendation is to get one of these:
And here is a coupon I found online that will give around 50% discount, I bought one of for me.

How slow are we talking about here? If I can still play HD videos (and can revert back in case of future fix), then I will probably use it.
I noticed some sort of update on TeclastOTA, but it always failed one way or another. So I reinstalled the tablet, and did get 10GB more for Windows, which I’m working on right now. I’ll check TeclastOTA again, might’ve failed cause of 429. If it still checks for updates (failure or not) instead of undiscover new version, then the files they provided on Dropbox really didn’t change anything.
