X80 Power: Pros and Cons

I got a Teclast Power X80 (purchased from Gearbest) some days ago and used it quite a lot the last days. Let’s start with the good stuff:

Pros:
– very good price
– good performance in Android and Windows
– solid build quality (premium build for the price)
– high resolution screen with accurate colors
– HDMI out up to 4K/30hz

Cons:
– Wifi reception is the weakest point of the tablet: Very close to the router you can get about 30Mbit/sec. 1 meter away you get only half the speed. And some meters away or in the room next to the router you get maximum of 2Mbit/sec if you are lucky. The interesting thing is that the tablet always reports good reception and does not loose the connection; the transfer speeds are just terrible.
This seems to be a design issue by making the metal back all metal and having no plastic stripes or something for the antennas.

– SD Card compatibility is the second big problem of the tablet. I tested 3 different SD Card brands. Some work in Windows and some work in Android. Others don’t get mounted in Android, while some get mounted in Windows but get ejected if you do large data transfers. I could not find one card that works reliabily both in Windows in Android.
I hope this can be fixed by a BIOS update.

– Screen brightness: As noted in the review the screen max brightness is quite limited. It’s ok for indoor usage, but outside even without sunlight not usable.

– Buzz noise: When the screen is on, there is a constant noticable buzz noise. I think that is from the backlight inverter and seems to be a component issue. I hope this will be fixed in revision 2.

– 32GB eMMC is not enough (Windows has 19GB partition with about 9GB free, 7GB after installing Windows updates). Android has a about 4GB free.

– Battery life is average. I can get about 4 hours both in Windows and Android. The capacity of my battery is reported to be about 3850mAh.

If wireless reception could be improved a bit and the SD card issues could be fixed, that is a decent tablet.

If anyone has as an idea for a mod to improve wireless reception, I am exited to hear:)

So far (fingers crossed) my Lexar MicroSDXC 64GB Flash Memory Card (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C2WXVDW/) has worked fine in both Android and Windows.

Useful to be able to move files between the 2 OSs.
