Hi, well the newer models come with the latest bios. English OK start button on the dual boot menu instead of Chinese and English factory ROMs with English, Russian and Chinese support on first boot. The earlier ROMs just had Chinese and then you need to install a language pack.
As for pricing, they are good prices. Banggood.com just had it for 183 a few days ago. Maybe Ali Express might have it for cheaper, but you don’t have paypal there.

@Chris if I may ask which BIOS version has the English OK button that is compatible with no problems with C5J6? And perhaps you have a link or a mirror link for it? Thanks in advance! 🙂October 9, 2015 at 10:22 am #12902Chris – thanks very much for the info. I can update the BIOS as well, can’t I? I did check AliExpress, but I couldn’t find anything cheaper.
bun – Thanks very much for that. Geekbuying seems to have an interesting concept of “discount”. I can add the tablet to the cart for $179.99, but when I add the coupon it increases the price to $185.99 and takes 5% off $185.99 (to get $176.99). Still, it’s cheaper than anywhere else, so I can’t really complain.
October 9, 2015 at 3:35 pm #12920Evan: you have to create an account and put the discount coupon after you log in. If I spent more time to play with it, I can squeeze a few dollars more 🙂 . However, the major problem for these chinese store is when do they actually ship the item. I recently bought 2 items from Geekbuying. I placed an order for the 1st item, and I received it 11 days later. I am shocked, never see any chinese store shipped that fast. Any how, after I placed an order for the 1st item, 24 hrs later, I decided to buy one more, the same item. And the 2nd one I received 22 days later despite the fact that, the order was placed only 24 hrs behind the 1st item. I think, most of these chinese store, they gather all shipments into a large cargo, and ship all at once. So, if your order happen to be the one that the cargo is about to ship, then you get your toy fast. To the contrary, if your order happened to be placed right after the cargo is gone, then you have to wait another cycle. It ia just my experience and my theory. I dont know how true is that.
Good luck to your ordering.
I just placed an order with gearbest, then I read all the horrible stories about Gearbest here… Oh well, life sucks 🙂
Geekbuying is still my favorite vendor, so far.

October 10, 2015 at 2:23 pm #12985So far the record for me from Chinese sellers is just over eleven months (from DealExtreme). I’m not sure how much of that was waiting for them to get stock and how long was actually shipping; needless to say, I’d completely forgotten about the order by the time it arrived. I’ve got an outstanding order at HobbyKing as well, but that’s never going to be shipped (I ordered an item that they only put up as an April Fools Day joke, just to see what would happen).
Good to hear that Geekbuying is considered a “good” vendor; since they also have the cheapest prices I’ll plan to stick with them.
October 12, 2015 at 3:43 am #13055This may seem like a silly question, but is there any particular reason to go with a “new” Teclast X98 Air 3G (with Windows 10 and Android 5.0 already installed) instead of an “old” one (with Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4)? My intuition is that if I get the “old” one, I can always update to the latest software …
Do you root your android toys? If you do, 4.4 is much easier to root. 5.0 would have to wait, unless you are technically savvy 🙂
I like to root any androids I touch, not necessary for flashing custom ROM. To me, using an android without root, is like going to bathroom… and found out the toilet paper is empty 🙁

- Handover my hard earned $ to gearbest for a teclast air III 2/64G dual, after waiting for 6 days, “…processing…”, got upset, cancel order and request refund.
- Go to teclast.com, browsed the picture of techlast air III, imaging holding one and playing with it…, found out gearbest is THE Only authorized teclast dealer. Shocked and surprise. If the auth dealer cannot ship your teclast toy out in 6 days, and other “unauth” dealer ship in a day or 2, interesting. What is the benefit of being an auth dealer? Sorry, a bit out of line for tablet discussion. But really pissed with gearbest.
- Does the air III use the same keyboard as X98 air/air II? Or teclast make a new one specially for air III?
- I picked the air III over the X98 air mainly because of WIDI. Never use WIDI before, but want to try. Anybody WIDI? how does that compare to cable HDMI in streaming video?
