I bought mine from gearbest and it was set to english (with chinese bloatware on the android partition) The problems you read if hardware are usually on arrival e.g. bad screens. For me I had a few software problems for android which were pretty much solved with the Mireks rom (very easy to install) and I have had no real windows problems. I also had some stability problems and sd card issues but these went away after updating the bios.

If you get this tablet expect to have to update the bios and the android rom. Windows should be fine.

A note about gearbest, their delivery and customer service is terrible. Assuming you are in europe you are taking a risk buying a chinese tablet, I would effectively think of it as buying a tablet with no warranty and you should expect to wait around a month for delivery (you may be lucky and get it sooner or like me they may lie about stock and have you wait 2 months)

Many thanks Chris for your info.
I had thought that the SD problems etc.which are solved with a BIOS update would have been addressed by Teclast updating the BIOS on all new machines – maybe I am just niave!
Whilst I am reasonably computer savvy I haven’t flashed any ROMS. Are there good instructions somewhere for installing the Mireks ROM? Does the X98 neeed to be rooted?
Also – if not Gearbest, do you have a recommendation for another seller?

You would hope they would come with the latest BIOS but I wouldn’t bet on it. So be prepared to do it, meaning you will need a keyboard, usb hub and thumb drive. Mireks rom is so easy to install just check his thread, you don’t need to be rooted and installing the rom will root the tablet (very handy)

As for sellers, they are probably all as bad as each other. I’m sure you will be fine with whoever you choose but it is a gamble and you can’t expect the same customer service you would get at home. For this reason I wouldn’t suggest this tablet to anyone who just needs a tablet (and ipad air for 2x the price is money well spent) but if you take the risk and it works out you end up with a great device for a very good price.

I should have mentioned earlier that I am looking to buy the Teclast X98 Pro Dual-boot when it becomes available. Does this complicate the Mireks update procedure?
I have read (somewhere) that one can update the Android OS and leave the Windows 10 “as is”; also that the update can be done via a PC connection(?).
I agree that buying a Chinese tablet is not for the fainthearted – a factory reset will put the tablet back to Chinese and it seems that the Teclast page for software downloads is also in Chinese.
In the meantime I will try to update myself on the Mireks update procedure.

yes the rom work perfect with the dual boot version. thats what I have. You just download the files, install the software as described, connect your tablet to pc and then run the program. Very simple indeed
