I really hate this chinese crap… how the fuck is possible to brick a device just updating Windows!
If I count all issues I have with my tablet, I would not recommend it to anyone.

You bricked it because this update is only for A5C8 you need a bios programmer and flash it the stock A5C6 Bios.

I’m sure you know what your talking about, but how does that make any sense? I mean I didn’t download anything on my own, I used the windows device manager and tried to update one of the items there. In any case, what do you mean by bios programmer? Can I do that on my own?

I also bricked my A5C6 tablet by flashing the wrong firmware (in my case, it was totally my fault.)  I bought the tablet from Geekbuying, and they said they’d fix it for free if I send it back to china.  Shipping cost 23 bucks or something, but GeekBuying’s support folks were surprisingly responsive (they always replied within 24 hours.)  After a few weeks, I received the reflashed tablet, and as a bonus, it now reads microsd cards bigger than 32GB, which it never did before.  I dunno from which company you purchased yours, but it’s worth calling them I think.  As for a Bios Programmer, clearly it was way over my head so I didn’t even consider it.

After a few days of charging and trying various combinations of power+volume buttons I’ve contacted Banggood (where I had bought it from) and they suggest I have it repair locally and they pay for it (well of course I will have to tell them beforehand how much it will cost and they will either accept the charge or not). Do you think I should do that? Or just return it and wait the ~ 40 days it will take for it to go back to China and return to me? I’m from Greece if that matters in any way.

Unlikely that any local repair shop can fix this without replacing the motherboard which they will not have.

    ATTENTION:
Until there is a solution to the x98- Windows update sudden death syndrome., I highly recommend that everyone disable automatic driver updates in Windows 10. It appears that TecLast may have published a faulty firmware update driver that Windows update may automatically install for you and upon reboot your device will be bricked, dead, unable to power up or to charge.  once this happens, there is no way for the user to correct the problem, you cannot boot into BIOS and the device is completely unresponsive.
Read this for the method to do this. Its quite easy.

NOTE: This is not the same as postponing Windows Updates, I don’t recommend stopping all windows updates, just drivers.
