Z8350 – 8Gb RAM?

There are some ads on geekbuying and banggood for Voyo’s new tablets, a series of Windows 12.6″ tablets, 10.1″ Android tablets and now a 10.1″ Windows variant.  They’re a new design theme for Voyo that follow on from the i8 plus tablet.  They have watchband-link-hinge-kickstands, steplessly variable between closed and almost-flat, Surface-like looks and construction, and seem to share a common 2048-level pressure sensitive stylus, which has got to be better than their current no-pressure stylus that Teclast and Onda also use.

The ad on geekbuying for the 10.1″ Windows tab, called “vbook i3″ says that it’s got the generic Z8350 that most of the 10” Windows tabs have, but that it’s got 8Gb RAM and 128Gb eMMC.   It’s the “8Gb RAM” bit that’s interesting.  Intel’s feature list for the Z8350 still states that it takes 2Gb max, and we know that’s bollocks because almost everything with that CPU has 4Gb, but 8Gb?  Maybe the listing’s wrong, but it is intriguing.

Another interesting inconsistency is that the keyboard is advertised as bluetooth, but it’s got pogo pins, the tablet has too, although it’s interesting that the single picture for the i3 keyboard’s sale page looks like the keyboard for the Android i8 series, which IS bluetooth  and doesn’t have a touchpad, while the pics on the i3 sale page show pins and pad.  The high-end Eve V tablet has a keyboard that’s pogo and bluetooth, and can switch between three devices on the fly, perhaps Voyo’s trickling down that sort of connectivity, which would also be a nice thing.  It’s also touted as having dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, well-specced wireless too.

Courtesy of intel communities forum: page 115 of the z8000-series full datasheet says that more than 2Gb is supported if the memory is LPDDR3.  To me, that says that all of the tablets with 4Gb must be using LPDDR3, so perhaps it’s just that the cost and availability of 8Gb, 253-ball packages has improved?   I wonder if that means that dual-channel RAM Z8700/Z8750 can do 16Gb?
