GPD Pocket Review

If you need a pocketable Windows 10 laptop with a 1080p screen, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is really no other, the GPD Pocket is just that a pocketable 7″ Windows 10 laptop power by a last gen Atom X7 Z8750. It’s got chiclet style laptop keys in a somewhat cramped keyboard. It has a track pointer, touchpad just wouldn’t have been possible. USB 3.1 Type-C port with display out, charging and USB 3.0 data. All wrapped in a premium all alloy build.

The screen is a fully laminated 1080p IPS panel. Deep blacks, sharp with good colors and bright too. So is this more of a gimmick device? Is it useable, practical and something that could be used instead of your laptop? Find out in my video full review below.

Consulcion:

Clearly, the GPD is a niche product, not for everyone. But for those that demand a full Windows 10 laptop experience in the smallest possible size. With of course many compromises. What I don’t understand is why GPD didn’t include a webcam, microSD slot and most of all improve that correct the wireless AC range. This is the biggest issue. Unless you are close to the wireless router wireless speeds suffer greatly. The GPD Pocket has one of the worst wireless ranges I have seen on a device as of late. Even worse than your typical budget mobile phone out of China.

The Pocket does have its place, I think as a tool for an IT administrator that doesn’t want to lug around a 13 or 15″ laptop and can use this to log in to servers via putty if they have the wifi range than is. Another use could be to use it primarily as a mini portable desktop device. With the Type-C port, you can use it as a one port dock to connect to an external keyboard, monitor, and mouse using a type-c USB 3.1 hub.
