Just received mine yesterday and here’s some first feelings about the tab (before my wife took it away from me…)

    • Screen is OK. I previously used Vi10 so a bit improvement on that side. Wide screen does not bother me, kinda like it.
    • Connectivity is very good, all ports are working nicely
    • Thick as hell and a bit heavy but main use for this will be mobile-school-entertainment-office-system-thingie so that does not bother me
    • First impression on the keyboard was that it is quite shit but after using it couple of hours it felt OK. Touchpad is bad but I’m using bluetooth mouse anyway
    • My wife said its not white….. …and it is not.
    • On the Windows side everything was OK, english language, 64 bit, activated, no preinstalled crap
    • Overall build quality seem rather nice, but we’ll see how the back hinge will stand usage

I ordered it from gearbest, packing was OK but it look like it was beaten by angry vikings or accountants when it arrived so It was a bit scary to see if the tablet was in one piece. No damage found =)

    Hi,

I ordered that one also from gearbest and it seems that it was shipped (supposedly) today.

My printed price was 19,99 so it should not be an issue with customs.

    I’ll also keep you updated.

So the journey continues. So it was not a calibration issue but a “real” issue. Touch accuracy was fine but there was this 1 cm region in the bottom of the screen which did not respond to any touch. Worst case scenario was that I had broke the screen somehow but there was this “feeling” that the same issue continued, the connector was not properly attached.

So open the back panel again (at this point I had lost 2 screws already, so keep them safe like a new born baby). The black connector lock was at this point pretty broken so I blamed this little piece of plastic. Conclusion was that the plastic strip was not pressing the cable properly because due to several attach/deattach attempts it looked pretty crooked. I got some insulating tape strips and with tweezers inserted couple of them to the cable, just under the locking plastic thingie. Pressed the lock tightly but oh so gently in place and also added some tape on top of the locking mechanism.

Seems a bit rough and ugly solution but without new main bord / connector this was the only option with available tools and beer.

But after using the tab daily after a week it seems that the whole panel works and ghost issues have not reappeared after this epic journey.

I’ll keep you updated if anything happens. But If there is still some issues, I’ll probably throw this to a local river (avoidin local ducks) and get some good book and nice glass of whiskey.

    So it got back.

Yesterday I started to investigate the root cause of this. I just wanted to fix this even risking the whole tablet, I was very fed up.

I opened the case and checked the digitizer cable coupling with magnifier and saw that some assembler was having bad day when this tab was built in china.

The flat cable was not fully inserted into the socket (a bit misaligned). After placing it poorly the assembler glued the cable to the socket…. …..

I removed the cable CAREFULLY with pliers and started cleaning the socket. Glue was everywhere between the small pins, so I had to start cleaning them with precision tools. Be very careful those pins are very very thin. I managed to bend some of them but all and all the cleaning went nicely.

NOTE! Latch securing the cable comes off very easily and is a bit hard to get back on. So patience!

After this I had a clean socket and a clean cable. Connected the cable and behold the screen worked like a charm.

Now it is working fine but the touch calibration got a bit misaligned for some reason, so I’ll check how the calibration can be resetted.

I did some initial testing with heavy load to get the tab warm and I did not get any ghost touches. I’ll follow the situation if it appears.

Conclution: It seems that the touch screen flat cable socket is very fragile and poor quality. In my case it was poorly assembled in factory and heat generated interference/shorts to the misaligned connection. Don’t know if this is the root cause but we’ll see.

    Hi!

Don’t know exactly what I did but here’s my situation:

First I noticed phantom touches here and there but It did not bother me so much, I’m used to chinese oddities. After using the tab daily for a couple of months it became worse I got really fed up.

After monitoring the situation I noticed that it had something to dot with temperature rising after some use.

Took of the screws like a boss, removed the back panel gently like petting a baby seal, admired and jiggled the connectors and cables (pointed out by Dave R). Nothing.

Started some heavy load apps to get the heat up but there was no phantom touches anymore with or without jiggling the connections.

Put back the back panel in disbelief and did not quite understand what happened between me and my tab.

Again ran some heavy load to the tablet with back panel on (of course thinking nothing had changed really) when outside to watch stars and think universe (to smoke)

And after this adventure I have not seen any phantom touches for a couple of days.

I’ll keep you guys updated if something dramatic happens.
