    good thing my iwork 8 pwm is not noticeable.for my 1x doesnt seem to use pwm

    I think that PWM is normal in LEDs.  Certainly my home LED lights do it.

    Perhaps the problem you are experiencing is because of the frequency of the PWM.

    (LEDs are used in the screen backlights.)

    try f.lux they use an overlay technique to dim the screen.
