    That’s great.

You can try the Windows part of the above video (I think you get Chinese to start with), then do what you planned to do to start with, I.e delete partitions and merge them. Only this time choose the correct partitions ;-).

Alternatively, you can try installing from a Windows installation USB stick again. When you prepared the USB stick that screwed things up did you use 64bit or 32bit version? Did you try to install or did just booting it cause the issue? You will need to install drivers, the link above seems to work. It looks like the X98 Pro has a Windows key in the BIOS that should be detected, if not its back to the above approach or buying a key.

I’ve just found a partition map of the X98 Air 3g, if the Pro has the same layout you might not be able to merge them as you planned unless partition managers have improved since I last used them (which is very likely).

I would try a fresh install.

Okay, I’m back on track. Android ánd Windows are working. Thanks a lot so far!!! Jonathan, you’re my hero!!

Now I’m back where I started with not enough diskspace for Windows. How to proceed from here?

For starters have you checked that Windows is activated?

Next, being paranoid I would make a note of your windows key, from the command line enter:

    Wmic path softwarelicensingservice  get OA3xOriginalProductKey

(Copy/paste works on Windows 10) Make a note of the number for future reference (not on the tablet). Can you go to Computer Management, Disk Management and post back a screenshot please? Also if you can answer my questions above about the installion USB issue (for my own future reference) I’d appreciate it.

    • Windows is indeed activated.
    • Diskmanagement screendump: See attached file
    • USB issue question -> Can you elaborate, I don’t know which question you are referring to?

    Good…

    The questions I asked were:

    1. When you prepared the USB stick that screwed things up did you use 64bit or 32bit version?
    2. Did you try to install or did just booting it cause the issue?

    So onto partition jenga…

You should keep the NTFS; EFI System Partitions and recovery partition. Since it won’t buy you much I’d leave the first 100MB partition too.

I can’t promise it’ll be OK but I think you can remove the rest, which nets you something like 24GB.

If it doesn’t start after removing those you know what to do 🙂 if it does then it’s probably a good idea to untick the little checkbox on the Android/Windows boot menu.

Btw, can you live with two partitions or do you really need one?

-> I didn’t screw things up by using a USB-stick, I just deleted partitions using Windows Disk manager. After that everything went wrong (as you know)
    1. Did you try to install or did just booting it cause the issue?

    -> See above

    Current status:

I deleted the 20GB partition (Android) again and created an extra volume. This works, but the end goal was to create one large partition. This doesn’t work using a partition manager :-(. So….. I’d like to find a way to install only Windows 10….

This version of Windows I’m using right now seems to be a little different. I hope I didn’t download a buggy version. Time will tell.

Bottom line: How do I create the situation in which I can use the entire disk (64GB) for one Windows installation?

In all fairness I did warn you about potential difficulties in merging 🙂

I’ve just found a partition map of the X98 Air 3g, if the Pro has the same layout you might not be able to merge them as you planned unless partition managers have improved since I last used them (which is very likely). I would try a fresh install.

I think it’s possible, but not easy, by booting http://gparted.org/livecd.php or similar and moving partitions around.

If it were not for the fact that you got an “acpi_bios_error” and couldn’t switch the device back on when you tried the Windows installation USB stick then I would recommend doing a fresh install. I know that on the X98 3G it’s possible to brick the device by attempting to install the wrong version (64/32 bit) of Windows. Some people have had to open the tablet and use an external programming device to recover. Which brings me back to the question above: When you tried booting the Windows installation stick and got the ACPI error were you using the 32bit or 64bit version? What are you running currently, i.e. what is working?

Just to make things neater I myself would try the fresh install and delete all existing partitions, but there is a risk and since it’s your device it’s your decision to make.

    Hi,

There’s something different now. I cán boot from Windows 10 USB without getting the ACPI error. Strange but true. I’m holding back now because I read somewhere I will need drivers and stuff, so…. Do you know which drivers exactly?

To answer your questions: I tried to boot from a 64 bits Windows USB. And I’m running 64bits now as well..

If only the installation had worked to start with we’d have saved a lot of hassle 🙂

I believe the correct drivers are at: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B4EXB7Ngka9peVJUZk5vbHRvbDQ&export=download

Worst case scenario if they don’t work is that you restore the tablet like you did before.

I’ve been considering getting one of these devices for a while now, they create some really interesting problems to overcome 😉

    Yes! I’m there!!

I booted the tablet from a Windows pen drive using:

    http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/teclast-x98-pro-chinese-edition-how-to-do-a-fresh-win-10-install/

All drivers were available here, so I used those.

I had to fight some challenges though, the touchscreen was all messed up (up side down), but this was just until Windows updated the display drivers itself. I couldn’t install some drivers at all because they weren’t signed (for example: camera). That was easy to fix, I disabled the sign check of Windows 10, rebooted and installed all drivers anyway.

So now I’m the proud owner of a native Windows 10 Home tablet with one large (58GB) partition.

Oh yeah: I backed up the Windows 10 key, but Windows had no trouble activating itself, so no issue there

So, after a few months successfully playing with Windows 10 on my X98 Pro, I want back to Android. How can I install Android back?

    Hope someone can help me.
