    I’m thinking of buying the f7.  The first thing I will do would be to put Ubuntu on it.  Does everything work with 18.04?  Does sound work OK?

    Also, how is everyone finding the laptop?  As good as expected?  What are the thermals like and how is the ips screen?

    Cheers.

    Short answer:

    Almost.

    Long answer:

    I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on my Teclast F7, and have noticed 2 major issues so far in 2 days of usage

    1.The touchpad does not work.

    The touchpad is not detected by the kernel at all. However there is a fix as linked below;

    https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/teclas-f7-touchpad-ubuntu-kernel/ (if you do not know how to compile your own kernel)

    https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/touchpad-not-working-in-linux/ (if you know how to compile your own kernel)

    Applying the fix however is a mixed bag, it will sometimes revert back and refuse to function unless the kernels are reinstalled.

    2.The audio bug

    There is a weird audio bug where the volume control refuses to work, and is available only in an on or off state. Either at 100% or 0% volume. There are no effects on changing the volume other than muting it outright.

    A short workaround is as below;

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/774458/installed-lubuntu-16-04-version-no-audio-now?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google_rich_qa&utm_campaign=google_rich_qa

    But I am not sure how long this will work. So far so good.

    EDIT:
    Just rebooted and it has reverted the issue. Will update if I find any fixes.

    As for how good it is; it’s actually surprisingly good and versatile. Other than getting a bit warm to the touch when charging, there are no issues from day to day use.

    The IPS display is nice, only things to take note are to be careful when removing the screen protector (to only remove one layer as opposed to two), and the brightness is not as bright as I would like.

    They also appear to have fixed the coil whine issue when plugged in at 100% charge with the newer edition F7 (the older edition does not have the engraving of teclast on the lid).

    Feel free to ask if you have any other questions, but I am enjoying it so far, and would enjoy it more if the two problems did not persist.

    It has a 50wh battery, 100% brightness at 100% volume streaming 1080p off Youtube is about 3 hours.

    On idle it lasted up to 7 hours and 41 minutes.

    touchpad can be made to work by rebuilding the kernel –> https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/teclas-f7-touchpad-ubuntu-kernel/#post-142998
