You, because you allow M$ to screw with your computer when ever they want.
The fist thing I did when I got my Jumper 13 months ago was to block all communication with M$
No “security” updates, no driver updates no system updates no nothing.
Then I removed everything MS I could remove including EDGE, Cortana etc.
My webcam is taped shut and the microphones are disconnected after I found out that disabling them via device manager can easily be overridden without my consent. When I need a camera I use an external with an external micro.
My Jumper runs even with all of my abuse I did to him (see my diary below) since 13 months every day for 8 hours minimum.
I have most programs on a separate partition what is not monitored by backup as portable versions and even If I screw up major while tinkering around again, a simple restore brings the system back to life and lets me continue where I was before the screw up.
Since 30 Years I never update a Windows system, It always stays with all the factory installed version.
Every time I tried to do better by installing updates they bit my in the butt. The old PC pro’s sentence “never touch a running system” did guide me well.
When I really want to screw around like with a minimized micro windows or a super duper new driver, I clone my ssd, take her out, put in the clone and screw around until success or permanent blue screen of death.
Then I put my original ssd back and enjoy a stable work environment.

1981 soldered my first Sinclair computer 1K, tapedeck * 1984 build and sold IBM clones 8Mhz, 512K, 20MB HDD * 2018 messing with ultrabooksDecember 19, 2018 at 7:51 pm #149285Yeah, I had already read about your approach but I believe it to be a little too radical in my opinion.
I would have totally agreed with you 20 years ago, when most personal computers would never see a network in their entire life. But today, with computers connected to the internet 24/7, I think that there are too many exploits out there that will target a non-updated system. I understand your point of view but I still think that security updates must be installed.
I come from more than 12 years of almost exclusive use of Linux, so I am not used to the Windows environment anymore. My old desktop PC with Win7 still runs great, never really had a problem with it, and I kind of hoped that Windows 10 would be at least as stable as Win7. But after a couple of months using it on the Ezbook I find it way worse than its predecessor, and very frustrating, especially when it comes to updates.
Too bad that I can’t downgrade the Ezbook to Windows 7.
December 20, 2018 at 7:30 pm #149367this is where common sense, a firewall, a tripple secured browser (not from M$ and not from Google), a good vpn and a constant, half transparent, click through traffic monitor comes into play.
And I use mostly non mainstream software.Imagine how vulnerable the older systems were and how less problems there were.
The newer your system , the more back doors you have in. They are now even build into the intel processors. It is the same with the virus marketing – all BS
Remember the Y2k BUG?
And what about the Specter and Hector or whats his name the both volnerabilities in our new intel chips – heard anything about it lately? But hey each its own.
peace out

Still this has nothing to do with the fact that Windows updates fail to install. 😀
December 28, 2018 at 6:39 am #149558There’s always some bugs in the Windows update which simply forces them to release new update. It’s a process which will continue forever :p
Perhaps this guide https://validedge.com/0x80070643/ might help you out.
