Thanks for the warning. I should have mind soon then as mine was sent a day or tow after your one. But delivery to Spain might be a few more days. So next week I hope. Did you make a driver back up? At least Onda do have one, it’s in the drivers section.

Will the bios key work for clean installs? I really don’t want to have to buy a Windows 10 key onto of this.

No driver backup, but I have the onda driver rar file for it. Infact its just come back (I put win 10 pro on) so will be putting them back on, I’ll report any problems.

I couldnt find a way to get into the bios directly I had to get in via windows advanced recovery, the bios is completely unlocked, it even has an overclocking section with voltages and memory timings.

I didnt actually change anything in the bios to reinstall, windows recovery had an option to boot a UEI usb stick which I created using the microsoft media creation tool.

@bill-hedworth How did you get on with the key when you installed Windows 10 Pro? Did windows accept the Chinese embedded bios key or did you have to use your own one? I’m just worried I’ll have to pay for a Windows 10 key, which is not what I really want to do.

I didnt try the single lang key, I’m afraid I used a generic key and used the naughty kms thingy :/

It’s back in the game now I used the onda supplied drivers and everything is working, can only get 40mbps down on wifi though which is rubbish.

This thing flys, just got a 1908/4044 geekbench mark which is great when you consider its compact form factor. Charger is pants, think I’ll search the web for a more compact 12v 3a brick.. think I would of preferred usb charging even it is very slow.

Ran an ssd bench as well it has pretty nice read speeds even at 4k, makes it nice and snappy.

I did notice though that the memory scores do seem a little lower than some of the other core m tablets like the i7 stylus etc, maybe its underclocked. I wonder if there is more performance to be had from the bios settings… I’m not going to start messing with them though 🙂

I received mine as well. It had Win 10 Pro English version installed.   I haven’t attempted to connect to wifi in order to activate it. I will do a system reset tomorrow first.

Good news – Laminated screen (I believe) and  removing the white plastic sim/MicroSD doesnt disconnect the wifi/bluetooth. Those finicky antennas connectors are no longer used. Better build quality overall . I wish it didn’t use 12v which means you have to travel with a separate adapter.

I wouldn’t reset it if its alrewdy in English. Chances are it will be back in Chinese if you do. This always happens to ne on the Ondas. Mines just left Amsterdam. I should have it Monday or Tuesday.

Don’t image it would be a fully laminated screen.

Nice ssd scores there Bill. I would meas with the bios settings to much. You could brick it with a bad setting. Does it have a reset button? Hole by th volume buttons?

Yeah the power adapter is total pants and like I said I would of prefered usb but then it probably isn’t powerful enough to keep the tablet running if your using it.

Think I’m going to buy this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Zozo-40W-Slim-Universal-Laptop-AC-Adapter-Power-Charger-for-HP-Dell-Toshiba-IBM-Lenovo-Acer/32385811075.html

Its nice a slim and wouldn’t be too much of an annoyance to carry.

My screen isn’t laminated by the way. And I don’t think it does have a reset button, I’ll check when I get home from work.

What about the heat? Does it get very hot during normal use? I’m still a bit confused how they can get Core M running totally passive in this small cabinet.

You are right I spoke too soon just a smaller gap than my first version v919.

Of course this Onda purchase couldn’t go smooth.  Before messing around with system resets I decided it was actually better to activate Win 10 in order to register the tablet with the Microsoft activation server. The problem is I am unable to see any wifi access points. Though the device drivers appear to be installed properly.  I’ll try to unistalled and reinstall the drivers.

They no longer provide a reset “hole”.

Yes I may buy that one as well.  Here is the battery pack I ordered.

I was lucky to get it cheaper than the current price. It’s a bit big but with the right adapter I can jump start my car with it. Lol

It seems my tablet is a dud .  My issue is with the Wi-Fi.

It barely exists. I have tried testing with my  very professional home setup and also tethered to my cellphone placed right next to the tablet  but still reception is almost non-existent. This leads me to believe that the internal antennas are not connected. I am in the process of doing a clean reset of the tablet to see if that helps but I seriously doubt it will change anything with the hardware.

Also the Win1o pro license can’t activate….. of course.

Why do I keep doing this to myself. lol  I keep saying never again.

Unlucky dude, my teclast x98 was pretty easy to open, might be worth having a little look inside if your reset doesnt workout.

Out of interest where did you purchase your from?

I am too uptight with my tablets appearance to risk the slightest defect while I try to pry it open.  Besides the problem occured right out of the box so they should be responsible for fixing it.

I did a complete system reset and it didn’t help. I also connected an external USB Lan and did all the system updates ( and attempted to activate).  I had to use  a wired connection because the wireless kept dropping out. I never have these wireless issues at home. My original V919 3g air has great reception .

I ordered from http://www.Onda-Tablets.com.  I have contacted them and I am waiting to hear back.  If they can’t help or expect me to pay to ship the tablet back for repair they are sadly mistaken. I will cancel the credit card / PayPal transaction and if they want the tablet back they can send me a prepaid return shipping label.

The problems you and I are having only prove to me that they rushed these units out.

Sounds like the antenna isn’t connected up to the motherboard. It wouldn’t be hard to open, but your right. It’s not something you should have to do.

Best of luck dealing with Onda -tablet.com they aren’t the official Onda store. The are just some dodgy reseller, I’ve had a run in with them in the past and they are the worst. The lied about having stock and wouldn’t refund me, telling me to be patience after almost 3 weeks. In the end it was a paypal dispute which was escalated. No doubt you will have to dispute this one. They also run Pipo-store .com and Cube-tablet .com and love to say they are the official store for these brands.

Hopefully mine will be here on Monday and i hope I don’t have any hardware issues.
