@Jakob.  Good find… the specs state it is AC600.

For an overview of X2 Pro mods, see

    http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/how-to-open-an-x2-pro-and-popular-mods/

I’ve pulled the M.2 Modem section until I can write clear steps.  If you or Robert get the ME906E modem working, please report the exact steps, what devices show in Device Manager, and whether GPS location shows up in maps.  The ME906E modem has a firmware upgrade for Win 10  that the V and J versions do not.

Great walkthruethread of opening an X2 pro..would be ideel if you have some pictures or video of the process.

wondering about what generation I got my hands on, if its a 1 or 2gen.. any other signs on the outer front, other then inner adhesive or clips..

how succesfull is the backplate to put on, will it get the same solid felling, or is it all down to the adhesive to get it back on..

mine X2 is a heatgenerator and to some extense is pretty nice to have all this heat to get a little warm from here in this extreme cold weather here in Scandinavia..but it gets almost to hot to touch and keeping hands on.. took an IR laser thermometer and got 52.5 on the back plate..

but then again my X2 CPU often says 92 and 93 degrees, and with (pic) throttling to 71% and taking the CPU down from 2.0 to 0.9..

just using maps with aerial realview and looking around in the Microsoft map app get the CPU up t0 93degrees..

(picture is from Intels ETU utility) from playing HL2 ep1 that plays suppringsingly good with fraps keeping frames above 100 but its a shame to see the CPU going 93degrees and throttling and the battery stated 1 hour and 50 minutes left at 82% battery and started from 100% only 15minutes before..but that’s is likely the norm, and not sure what to expect on an win10 tablet anno2016 and under heavy use..

Hmm ^I notice the memory timings in HWinfo64 is now blank, and wasn’t previus,,(picture)

@Jakob.  You need to do the thermal mod, as soon as you can.  The X2 Pro is unusual in that it has a full copper, about 1mm thick, screw-down heat sink covering the Atom chip, but the sad part of the story is that there little transmission of heat to the backplate… the thermal pad used by Teclast is cheap material and about 1mm too thin.  That’s why you’re seeing 90s in the Atom and low 50s on the backplate.  The Atom’s heat, or more specifically, the heat from the GPU in the Atom, is staying in the Atom.

Probably the best way to determine if you have gen 1 (tabs) or gen2 (adhesive) model is to apply heat on the ports side (step 1 in the tutorial) and see if the backplate lifts easily.  15 seconds of heat isn’t going to hurt anything.  If you have gen1, there will be little change in how strongly the backplate is retained, but the tabs will be more compliant and less likely to fracture when you push them back.  The analogy would be frozen toffee (no heat on the tabs) and warm toffee (heated tabs).

I have search a little bit on the web to see if i could find some pictures, of the X2 pro without the backplate..(recall that i saw some where you could see the backplate off, but cant find it anymore, all is the X98 where there is numerous vids.

Got some heatsinks in the transit to tackle this heatgenerator of an core M  device, but haven arrived yet..(links are here, have in mind very cheap and you could likely get some better if you put more money into it, but the good thing is that copper plates comes in different sizes and set.)

6 copper heatsinks in diff sizes.

    10 thermal silicone compound

    black thermal pad

but havent arrived yet, and this thermal pads would also be ideel to use in one of my other interests, strong lasers where the driver often gets extremely hot ..

Are little unsure about opening the X2 pro and jeapardising the little warrenty there are on CN product and partially dont like that the clocks and timings on my memory doesnt show up in HWinfo anymore (pictures above) and if the extreme heat already had taken its told on the cirquit…

    Hi guys..

anybody that can recommend other X2 threads or forums, hence the relative litle activity on this site.I would very much like some info on some of the subject i have asked into on some of the previus pages.partically trying to decifer, my model, and why it comes in so much more then others and what it should, hence the details on X2 and on Gearbest.

Like i stated and wasnt quite sure on  link/page 23 my model weighs significantly more then what techtablets review stated and there purchased x2 sample that is aound 850grams and the same details is also on Gearbest detail-information as I recall 844 grams..

tryed it on numeros scales and mine X2 comes in at 912 to 917grams thats quite a difference from the 844, and wasnt sure if it was down to gen1 or gen2 aspect or the amount of adhesive versus clips..

But are a little baffles about the amount of heat generated in mine that clock 93degrees in a blink of an eye just from the fast Intel ETU fast benchmark and tkrottling like hell..(gearbest ticket solution, often got no clue and will likely just reply to the 844grams in there detail-page and my reason for asking here-)

btw took some pictures of the panel on X2pro to display the pixels & room divergence on this model, it seems it was double pasted, sorry but doesnt look like attached file can be edited-.

Has anyone purchased a spare charger?

I understand the amp and voltage requirements (DC12V and 2A) but cant find the right physical plug size.

@Anthony Have you soldering-knowledge? If you do you can buy any random charger, cut the wrong size plug and solder on a new plug

anyone know how I deactivate the touchpad of the original keyboard? because I often touch it during writing and I also use an external mouse, so i don’t need the touchpad.

Hey guys, I have a few question(s) for the thermal application.

    1. Did some of you apply only thermal pads to the heatsink? And if yes, how well did it dissipate with just the thermal pads?
    2. Did anyone apply Copper plates and thermal grease to the heatsinks? How well did that dissipate?
      1. Also, did you add thermal pads after or something to hold the copper better? or did the greases do that all on its own when it dried out?

@sejo Im still waiting on my pads to arrive. It seems like it got lost so the seller has sent me a new one. I will tell you how it went when I get it, but it might take a while longer

I have now received my thermal pad and I removed the old one and added three layers on 0,5mm each, totally 1,5 mm. I cant say a notice any diffrence. I will add a forth layer when my huawei ME906e arrives

Edit: Ok, I have now played some hearthstone and a saw a 10 degrees celsuis diffrence, from 65 to 55. So that was kind a big diffrence.

I was looking quickly at the USB-ports while I had the backplate removed. And from what I saw, it didnt look impossible to solder on some new wires to the usb-pins on the motherboard. If that is possible, then I might be able to fit a usb wifi-dongle in the tablet. I will investigate it more when I open it next time when I install my 4g-modem

Huge thanks to everyone for the information here. I used the instructions from the thread and drivers from the site and installing a fresh Windows (Windows media creator and USB stick) went without a hitch. Bought the X2 from gearbest and it came with OEM license so no issues there.

I hope someone can clarify a couple of things still. When the installer asked which partition to use, it showed several small partitions (system and a couple others) I didn’t touch these, just formatted the main partition and used that. When booting up, the tablet still displays the chinese boot-up logo and I’m wondering if I should delete all the small partitions when installing or if that would just mess up the device? (not that the boot-up logo really matters but since the goal was a clean install I’d rather get all traces out)

Also, the stylus (teclast stylus from gearbest) works otherwise but handwriting input is greyd out in keyboard alternatives. Did I miss a driver?

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work!

thx for the reply neighboor, about the effect of the thermal mod, have you tryed the intel ETU benchmark, in mine it goes 92degrees in no time.https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-
I have also recieved, both pads and copper plates, though missing the gelpaste..the copper plates looks good with the price in mind and partically apreciate that its a lot in 6 differencce w-sizes from 0.3mm to 1.5mm..
if the thermal capilities is good, cant yet say, but for 0.70US shipped for 6 diff plates, i aint got high hopes.. link #21479
Have asked gearbest about the weight and why mine x2 comes in at 915grams and if it doe too clips vs adhesive or? in regards to detailed 844gram, but as expected they just take you for round-about amongst the different employes.
about the extreme pour wifi range, is the wifi antenna visible and connected thrue UFL pins, like is useally the norm on handheld mobile devices these years. got a bunch (pic) of new wifi antennas for some of the modern devices, that i purchased for close to no money to use on routers and RC transmitters and if it could be down to just exchange or multiple wifi antennas in the X2, because the speed is decent when standing infront of the router where i get 50mb on both up and down, and thats solid enough for an N standard, but just moving a few meters back it dropped massively to like under 5mb ..would also be great if its was possible to take the inner cirquit for like an small AC600-wifi to 9US and just hijacked & solder it to the pins under the hood..
the screen really comes a live for an non laminated fare away screen like this, by tweaking the settings in intels adjustment and with a brightness under 20..

(//site aint to happy with attachements (pictures) and just take the reply in to no mans land and dissepear’ so you need to write it all over again)
