I don’t need or expect a lot from this tablet, but I am taking it travelling so I need to get a shit load onto it. All I need it to do is operate smoothly and be able to transfer back and forth from the laptop and my camera. At the moment the best I’ve got is transferring stuff onto the USB from the laptop and then onto the tablet via the USB. Doable as it’s a 32gb usb drive, but convoluted!
Also, do you guys reckon that hooking a camera up via the USB OTG will allow me to easily get the pictures off? That’d be awesome. Can’t test right now as the misses is away with the camera -_-
July 5, 2016 at 8:27 pm #42712Just can’t get the laptop hooked up at the moment. It’s reading one of my USB drives off the USB OTG, doesn’t like the file format of the other
Would USB OTG to laptop work in some way? I don’t have a cable to try though…
Or is there some explanation for why it’s only charging off the USB 3.0 port?
July 5, 2016 at 7:53 pm #42710Yes 2.0 doesn’t work.
I’m using an Acer V3-571 laptop which has one USB 3.0 port. It seems to be charging from that port, but isn’t being recognised. Why could that be? Could be a real pain in the ass if I want to put videos etc on the tablet.
July 5, 2016 at 3:20 pm #42688Hmm, it seems to be operating more normally now. I’ve pulled it out and placed it back in to test and it’s charging without protest now, not as much effort required to sit in place and charge properly. Really is a strange one, as I certainly tried more than a few approaches last night. Maybe I’ll keep it if it can carry on like that for the next few weeks. I’m far too cheap to buy something unless I really have to… 🙂
With regards to the micro USB, in android that should just hook to the laptop without issue? What about in Windows?
July 5, 2016 at 2:58 pm #42683Cheers ScutMonkey. Much appreciated.
Charging away quite happily now. Once I’ve got it up and running and I’ll try and resolve the connectivity with the laptop issue. Good chance that was some idiocy on my part too. If I can do that I’ll be a happy man and can keep this thing, as it did look a really decent tablet when it was charged. Except the speakers.
July 5, 2016 at 2:45 pm #42680I feel like an idiot that can’t put a cable in properly…
But then again, that is a truly atrocious bit of kit. Can’t even be good for the charging unit to have to go to those lengths to insert the cable.
July 5, 2016 at 2:41 pm #42679Thanks so much George, I got it working! The cable really is utterly crap. I mean I even considered that as a possibility and did wiggle it around and play with it. I just jammed it in really hard, harder than is probably advisable and I got a flicker of flight. I pushed it again and it works?! Horrendous cable…
Any reccomendations for a decent one?
July 5, 2016 at 11:32 am #42663There isn’t any clear indication, but the manual claims..
Type c -reading data and charge by 5v
MicroUSB – reading data
Regardless it doesn’t charge by USB 2 either, to rule out the possibility of inaccurate manual. Really does look like a dud
July 5, 2016 at 4:44 am #42635I believe its a Samsung travel adapter I tried. Rated the same as the supplied charger and surely should be capable. If so, it would have to be the cable. Unless its not capable and in which case why on earth supply it…charging is kinda important
Should it be able to charge from the USB 2.0 port before I do something stupid…?
July 5, 2016 at 4:27 am #42634No light whatsoever. No indication any charging is taking place.
I don’t have any other USB 3 cables to test. I have other adapters, including a Samsung one (no idea what juice it puts out but it charges my lenovo idea tab) – doesn’t work either. Tried a few adapters, travel ones etc with the supplied USB 3 cable. Nothing.
I was in Android when I tried hooking up the USB 2.0 to the laptop, yeah. Zilch with a couple different cables
I’m just wondering whether its worth it to buy a better charger like an s7 edge one. Could be throwing good money after bad 🙁
