1981 soldered my first Sinclair computer 1K, tapedeck * 1984 build and sold IBM clones 8Mhz, 512K, 20MB HDD * 2018 messing with ultrabooksNovember 18, 2018 at 8:28 pm #148234Hey Guys,
i could need some help. I got a Teclast F5 and did a thermal mod. You can change the Power Limit on this device in the Bios and it is says it is unlocked (see pics HWinfo). Somehow the device starts throttling very soon and limits to 6w (power limit exceeded) and there is no temp problem. Any Ideas on this ?
Any help will be welcome and I tried the mod in this thread too but without any change in the behavior.
Thank you 🙂

If you remove all limits it starts running like hell, but only for a couple of seconds, then limits to 6w. The bios is fully unlocked and i did set all temperature limits much higher for testing. The throttling appears always after some seconds and stays. See new pics with higher limit attached.
Any ideas?

go back to 6w and set time to 300 seconds
run prime 95 in max temp mode
check if throttling – if not, increase by 1 watt – repeat until you find the the optimum settingwhen you open too wide, too much power is drawn and it has not even the chance to get hot because the amp limiter jumps in and throttles.
I had terrible throttling with a 4000, never went over 60 degrees, but got hot and had no power.
The joke was, it had a cooling fan what never left the idle setting. Crappy new lenovo – I had it for 5 minutes, then returned it back to the store.Need Help?

November 27, 2018 at 9:09 am #148560Teclast set 9W and in my tests on my unit thermals max out just before 80 degrees. So makes sense you get a few degrees c more with 10W. The Jumper EZbook X1 is even better, Jumper set a massive 14W TDP!!! But it handles it so well, I think they have used a thermal pad and some more copper.
The similar machine of course to the F5 just a cheaper version of it.

(Celeron N3050) I removed the tdp with this guide and observed a noticeable increase in performance but i just wanna push it to 7,8,9, or 10 watts instead of the stock 6w tdp.
December 18, 2018 at 7:44 pm #149242Well, I did some testing and found the commands that work for looking on Braswell CPU’s (N3710, N3700, N3050, etc.).
The commands that I have tested were:
- 12w WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00008180
- 11w WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00008160
- 10w WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00008140
- 9w WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00008120
- 8w WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00008100
Also for anyone that’s having a problem with the TDP reverting after a bit just make a batch file in the install dir of RW Everything and put these lines of code in the batch file:
@echo off
cls
:start
TIMEOUT 30
RW.exe /Min /Nologo /Stdout /Command=”WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x000081xx”
goto start(replace the command with whatever command you use for your chipset/cpu)
Then create a shortcut to the batch file on your desktop and run it. This will loop the command and re-execute it every 30 seconds just minimize the window or move it onto desktop 2 if you don’t want to see the cmd window on the taskbar.
December 29, 2018 at 10:18 pm #149648Hi Chris, I was wondering if on your LapBook SE if you experienced a short burst of turbo mode and then it just falls off and chops the FPS in half, I did the heatskin mod, max temps are 65 celsius and after 10 seconds or so, the igpu mhz goes from 700mhz to 400-450mhz.
I was wondering if there’s any new RW codes since those were for Apollo Lake? Please, I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you very much

December 30, 2018 at 11:55 pm #149661Set no power limit in the bios, then run the software RW everything unlocked power limit and it will then be fine.
Disabled C states in the bios will also mean the CPU will hold 2.3Ghz for as long as it likes (I run this now). But for some reason, the Intel 600 HD will not hold the clocks. So again for the iGPU use the software metohd.
C-States off doesn’t affect the battery life at all. I can still get 8-9 hours on low brightness.

The cpu also downclocks to 1.86ghz even though the temps are at 65c maximum.
I disabled both c states and power limits in the bios as well.
Thank you so much, and happy new year.

December 31, 2018 at 3:53 pm #149675You need c-states on for the max GPU clocks, no power limit in the bios and then no power limit software removal run otherwise without it after like 120 seconds it clocks down. Then for me it will hold max GPU turbos in CSGO.
I also have my copper heatsink mod done.
