PWM = Pulse Width Modulation
It is a method to control voltage level. Here, specifically, Lukasz is referring to how the backlight brightness in LCD screens is controlled.
One level method is vary the voltage statically using a voltage controller. So, if you ask for 50% brightness on a screen fed with 5V power, the line would deliver 2.5V.
PWM uses temporal modulation. It generated a square waveform and modify the ratio of full voltage and 0V to create the expected value. For the same example, PWM would generate a waveform with 50% on at 5V and 50% OFF at 0V, resulting in an average of 2.5V and 50% brightness. The problem comes when the frequency of the PWM is not high enough, then some people can see the flicker due to those fast ON/OFF cycles.
In summary, PWM is a brightness control type for LCD and some implementations are slow enough that people can see flickering, resulting in eye strain.

- Chuwi Hi12: http://techtablets.com/chuwi-hi12/
Performances might be lighter (atom x5)
Can expand storage through microSD and USB FlashOther possibilities (but without all requirements)
- Cube i9 http://techtablets.com/cube-i9/
Better performances (Core M), but only windows - Cube iWork12: http://techtablets.com/cube-iwork12/
Windows only too, atom x5
I know other companies have such products, but they all seem to make different trade offs.

At least people would know exactly what they would buy and if you stay close enough from the price, you’ll offset most of the costs.Just add a “Buy this review item” button at the bottom of your reviews.
I’m sure people would happily take those tablets off your hands.July 14, 2016 at 7:04 am #43453I read your post multiple times and I’m not sure what you are asking.
It seems you want to increase storage space on your tablet and decided to get an external USB hard drive.Honestly, depending on your tablet and usage, this may not be the best solution.
Lots of tablets include a MicroSD card slot. This should be the first solution to increase storage. This is both cheap and discreet. Not all tablets have a full USB port and/or support USB OTG (acting as USB master, allowing to plug peripherals).
If you want to know what portable HDD to buy, follow any of the recommendations found online. Here is another website whose recommendations have been pretty good so far:
- About xbox compatibility, any usb storage recognized as “Mass Storage device” (that is, most if not all) should work.
- RPM will depend on the product you buy, but most portable USB HDD are 5400 rpm, as random access are typically non-critical.
- For warranty, this will depend where in the world you are and your reseller.
I would personally NOT go for a USB HDD to extend a tablet storage. My preferences would be:
- SD/microSD card (if the tablet supports it)
- small usb flash drive ( https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-128GB-SDCZ43-128G-G46-Version/dp/B00YFI1EBC )
- wireless HDD storage ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178321 )
July 14, 2016 at 6:51 am #43452Define “ipad alternative”.
IPads, windows tablets and android tablets all have different “feel”, apps and usage.
Generally, tablets can be compared in the same screen sizes, then processing power, then build quality.Multiple chinese tablets exist with the same 4:3, 9.7″ screen as the ipads, this may be a good starting point.
Windows and android tablets come in all sizes and screen ratio, so you would need to see what your usage is.Some examples of tablets with that same screen:
