In case this helps anyone, I have used some of the information here to remove Android from my Teclast Kindow X89 D5N3. I used https://www.minitool.com/partition-manager/partition-wizard-home.html Free Edition instead of the EaseUS tool in the original post. I deleted all the partitions except:

    *:ESP – 64mb – FAT32 – GPT (EFI System Partition)

    *:SYSTEM -352Mb – FAT32 – GPT (EFI System Partition)

    C:Windows – xxGb (depends on your tablet) – NTFS – GPT(Data Partition)

    *:Recovery – 2.15Gb – NTFS – GPT(Recovery Partition)

I applied and rebooted, then merged all the unused partitions where necessary.

Applied and rebooted again, then moved the SYSTEM partition to the start of the empty space (i.e. no space before) whilst keeping it the same size.

Applied and rebooted again, then resized the C:Windows partition to take all the empty space (i.e. no space before or after it). Applied and rebooted and now I have a 26.5Gb windows partition.

Nice review especially on the Xbox streaming side. It’s all well to see the thickness and weight of a tablet but the actual usability is the make-or-break of it.

@fantasticdave Thanks for the tip – do you mean the x98 by any chance from this link? http://techtablets.com/teclast-x98-air-3g/downloads/

    Cheers,

I have the x89 Kindow D5N3 with Windows 10 preinstalled. If you can suggest a way to copy the drivers from it, I’m willing to help.

Do you think it is worth trying Remix OS as a workaround, as it is designed to be installed alongside an existing Windows setup? I know it doesn’t fix your issue but it might get to where you want to be.

I will try the USB connection later.

Here is a photo. Here’s the exact sequence.

    1. Power off
    2. Power on
    3. On the (Android) or (Windows) screen, first hold down vol+ and vol-, then tap on the (Android) and (OK)
    4. Device will seem to reboot and Pipo logo will reappear. Keep holding it – takes about 20 seconds.

Note that I am running the BIOS from 16-06-2016.

I have not tried the various options yet – I tapped on the bottom one and it just sat there. I tapped on the one containing the word ‘Android’ and it booted into Android. I’m a bit worried the others might lock it up again so I won’t mess further.

Sorry I forgot the original purpose for which I responded! I tried holding down vol+ and vol- at the same time whilst clicking on Android and eventually the screen came up with an Intel logo in the top left on a black screen with a few rows of Chinese text separated by white lines, and the text “FTM”, “v1.60” and “Android” mixed in there. Is this any use?

Really interesting thread and sorry for the misuse of “firmware” 🙂 – I know they are really just images of the partitions mostly. Could it be that Pipo are using some version of MBR/GRUB which is getting updated by your preferred Linux version i.e. it sees the ID as something that it is allowed to update? Thanks for the tip on the keyboard unplugging, I will try it after a restore.

Sounds like you are very comfortable with flashing and hacking around with your tablet which is great. Which version of the bios/android/windows are you using? On the Pipo site they have a new version of the Windows image and the BIOS (hosted on Baidu but I have mirrored here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67744233&postcount=15 for convenience) – maybe that will help? I haven’t tried the new files yet (not enough time!) but I intend to as I ran a Windows 10 update and it messed up my touchscreen totally.

Note – I don’t see a specific Android download on the W1S support page.

Small update. I’ve also found that (re)enabling tablet mode can make the touchscreen behave again. I’ve looked at other threads and there doesn’t seem to be a touchsetting.gt file anywhere on the W1S.
