    Agustin

I have done this once.  So I am not an expert.  Chris’ complete YouTube tutorial (which is not linked from TECHTablets that I could find) is here.

As good as it is, I also relied on TecKnight’s Teclast tutorials .

First, I did not flash the BIOS as it was already dual boot.

Second, I reflashed Android using the method (Intell Manufacturing Tool) described in TecKnight’s xda forum tutorial .  I used his “how to” tutorial procedure to flash Mireck’s V7 Lollipop ROM.  Those are also linked here on TECHTablets.

The above was done from a Windows (Win7, actually) PC with the charged Teclast connected by a USB cable.  I got an error the first time, but the second flash went fine.

Third, I reinstalled Win10 in the largest (unallocated) partition, using a powered OTG USB hub, greater than 3 Gb flash drive, and USB keyboard and mouse (wireless worked) as described in Chris’ YouTube tutorial.

I used the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to make a single language (English in my case) Windows 10 Home 32-bit installation on a flash drive.  I had extracted the Chinese single language version key using the free version of the Magical Jelly Bean key finder tool, but it wouldn’t work.

Apparently it is forbidden to link to TecKnight’s “Reference: Teclast X98 Air 3G 64GB dual-boot default partition map” on xda forums as the link here goes nowhere and when I posted it before it disappeared?

When I was installing Win10, the display was tiny – I had to use a magnifier to read it (I tried using a mini-HDMI cable but it didn’t work).

One thing – I had to change all the sleep settings in Win10 immediately.  Somehow the default was 2 minutes!

Another thing – I bought a Win10 key online from the Netherlands for about 50 euros (even downloaded Win10 from the .NL Microsoft site they linked to).  It didn’t work and the people never responded.  Be careful.

    Done and done.

Everything went fine.  I didn’t have to flash the BIOS (I had a later version anyway).  Took two tries but I flashed Mireck190’s v7,07 ROM (full partition), and then installed Win10 again (in the unallocated partition).

Only glitch was that I didn’t need the TouchSetting.gt file – that actually screwed up my touch screen – deleted it and its all good.

The difference being that if you buy it from China (banggoods.com) at $179 (USD) and understand that you are basically buying hardware, that’s fine – but to spend $400 on one (as I did from Amazon for convenience / return policy) and then have to flash the Android ROM and reinstall Win10 and buy a license is unacceptable.

I bought one from Amazon (seller Domnitree but Fulfilled by Amazon) – it arrived yesterday and am returning it today.  It shipped from the US.

    1. The Android installation was a full Chinese installation.  Once I converted the language, there were no apparent Google services (Play Store, GMail, etc.).  When I tried to install the Play Store, the tablet said it was already there (Chinese version?) when I tried the most likely app (than God for the camera translate feature in Google Translate), it tried to update, but couldn’t and froze (and it was in Chinese).  Short of flashing a new ROM, it was useless.
    2. The Android 5.0.1 install was filled with unremovable Chinese bloatware (that stayed Chinese after the system language switch).  To remove it, you’d have to root it and some people say the Onda ROM is already rooted and that bricks it.  I don’t know.
    3. The Windows 10 install was in English (as the seller promised), but it was not a legal install (the hacker tool KMSpico ‘authorization tool’ was active and some people say that’s spyware).  So, I would have had to buy a Win10 license to be legit.
    4. On the dual boot screen, the touch screen was unresponsive / uncalibrated.  To select an OS to boot from I needed to use a connected mouse.

To recap, for the price, I would have had to (1) flash a new Android RoM and (2) reinstall Win10 and buy a license.  Since I paid way too much for the next day convenience and return policy protection of Amazon, that was not worth it.

AS A FURTHER WARNING:  Just assume that if you buy one from China, even if the Android install is a real Google services install like the one on the Teclast X98 Air 3G I bought and not filled with unknown, useless (outside of China) apps, the chances are high it will have a Win10 Home Single Language (Chinese) installation – which means you can’t change the display / system language from Simplified Chinese (PRC) and will have to install a localized Win10 to get your desired language.  And probably have to buy a key (unless you have one).

    So, be prepared.

Okay, at this point I’m hosed.  After I downloaded the clonezilla image Kozar had posted I realized that won’t work because its for the X98 Pro.

I’ve borked my Android partitions (no boot choice screen – probably no Android) but Win10 works (sort of – no rotation and the touch screen is off by 2-3 cm).

I found a tutorial on reddit for flashing the ROM.  Linked to it I found a partition map – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61975136&postcount=10497

Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to reinstall Android without deleting Win10 0r how to start from scratch and redo everything?

Vodemar – that helped.  I got closer but I killed my Android partition, so I’m going to use Kozar’s method.

Does anyone know which partitions to update to?  How can I tell which one is the Android partition?

Why do people leave out major steps in tutorials?  (smile)

So on the Language screen it looks like this (Screen C: Click Here).  Underneath the Simlified Chines (PRC) it says Windows Display Language.  Under the English (US) it says something like “only allow the use of a language pack”.  Under that, the three buttons are “set as default language” then “options” then “delete”.

If I click “set as default”s like Screen D:Click Here   Notice that Chinese remains the display language, even though English is the default?
