I think brush is a mistranslation. I think it means clean or possibly flash?  My Hi8Pro came with Windows 10 only, and a regular PC-style BIOS.

A few people have suggested using USB-A to USB-A cables to back-power through a non-powered Type-C to USB 3.0 Type A multiple output hub. This provides charging to the Chuwi but you can’t connect it until after boot-up (it hangs the BIOS), and you don’t get any USB hub functionality – just USB device unrecognised error messages.

There is something wrong with the Chuwi Hi8Pro’s USB Type-C implementation I fear.  Devices that work fine with other USB Type-C computers (MacBooks, Chromebook Pixels etc.) aren’t working with the Chuwi.

So far it appears impossible to charge and connect USB devices at the same time.  Major fail.

    Update :

When I connect a USB 3.0 powered hub, or a non-powered USB 3.0 hub with integrated Ethernet, into my USB Type-C to USB 3.0 OTG cable I get USB Device unrecognised errors. If I connect a USB 3.0 HDD directly it works fine.

When I connect a USB 2.0 powered hub to the same OTG cable it works fine AND the USB 3.0 hubs above then also work fine (albeit USB 2.0 compatible)

My USB Type-C Hub + Charging adaptors are both USB 3.0. The Chuwi appears not to like them. Is there such a thing as a USB 2.0 Type-C Charging hub?

I can confirm that this device doesn’t work either for OTG or as a Hub : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017KBQLPO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I can confirm that this device works as an OTG adaptor : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B011BASJQ4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and allowed me to connect both a USB 1.1 mouse and a USB 3.0 2.5″ Samsung 1TB external HD (with no external power and I was able to play video from the drive). I can’t confirm if the connection was USB 2.0 or 3.0.

So the search for a Charging Hub with USB OTG continues… (Unless the Chuwi has been poorly designed so that it can’t do both)

Hi there, can anyone who have this tablet clarify if the usb type c is a 3.0 or a 3.1 usb (and not a merely usb 2.0 with type c connector)? also could you please check if you are able to power up external self powered 2.5 hard disk? thanks

According to Chuwi Customer Support :

Hi8 Pro have USB 3.0 port so it support USB 3.0.
Please do not change any USB power setting in the BOIS. As you said, you may lock yourself out of the BIOS, which may paralyze the USB port and there is no way to fix it.
I’m trying to get OTG functionality to work. So far I’ve had zero success with external HDs – either 2.5″ bus powered or 3.5″ externally powered.  The only device I’ve managed to get working has been a standard keyboard.

Yes. I’m trying to find a similar solution.  I’ve tried this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/2-Port-Aluminum-MacBook-Chrome-Devices/dp/B017CMOES2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1456057260&sr=8-5&keywords=usb+type-c+charging+hub  This reviews as offering OTG hub + charging functionality on a Chromebook Pixel and a Macbook.

It wasn’t entirely successful.  No charging through it, but I needed to connect a PSU to the USB Type-C power input to get any hub functionality.  Even then this may have been limited to USB 1.1 as whilst a keyboard worked, external hard drives (self powered and bus powered) didn’t.

My tablet didn’t indicate it was receiving power over USB when connected either.

I received numerous USB errors, including one about power surges, and have tried both the Chuwi PSU and supplied cable and alternative USB Type-C cables (which are properly USB Type-C certified with the correct power handling that Benson Leung has been testing for)

    So far – no joy.

Have ordered a couple of other solutions (a standard OTG cable for USB A-female to USB Type C and an inline single output charge + OTG adaptor – but it looks similar to the one mentioned above so not expecting it to work)

Chuwi customer support confirmed to me that the connector is USB Type-C 3.0 (i.e. it is USB 3 not 2.0 they say…)

I have asked them for a recommendation for an OTG+Charging solution.   I also asked if I needed to change USB BIOS settings (I had to do this to get my Linx 7 to reliably charge AND run OTG at the same time using USB Micro-B OTG charging hub solutions) and was told not to touch them (I am always wary as if you lock yourself out of USB in the BIOS you can’t change BIOS settings…)

Does seem like USB Type-C has a number of ‘early adopter’ issues.  Witness all of the cables that currently fail to meet USB Type-C approval.

    Has anyone :

    1. got USB OTG working reliably with USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices and a Type-C OTG adaptor
    2. got USB OTG AND charging at the same time with the above and/or a charging hub.
