Thanks for the tip, @wurster. I’m extremely hesitant to try to flash anything because it powers off suddenly and frequently, even if I’m in the BIOS settings. If it powered off during a BIOS or EC flash, it would probably be irreversibly bricked.
@john-macie, PM incoming.December 10, 2016 at 8:43 pm #58360They did try to screw me. I’ve been fighting with them ever since. I would strongly recommend nobody buy from Shenzhen Ele Technology Ltd / Linda Tang. If anyone goes wrong, you are screwed and will waste months of your life.
Does anyone in the USA want to buy this tablet and accessory bundle? If so, PM me with a reasonable offer. Maybe $50 + $10 shipping? I can do Paypal and will send UPS tracking once shipped.
I have the complete bundle with the keyboard, stylus, screen protector, and carrying case. The crappy case had the zipper break almost immediately and the tablet is defective as outlined above. Everything else is fine, used for less than 10 hours. I had bitlocker on the tablet so I reset the TPM chip since I can’t power it on long enough to clear my data; consider it wiped and needing an OS reinstallation.
I’ll probably eBay it if I don’t hear something here.
July 26, 2016 at 8:58 pm #44623After fiddling with it a bunch more, I’ve reproduced it in Ubuntu, also.
A coworker suggested I install mprime and stress it a bit in Ubuntu to see if that would trigger it. I’ve been trying to boot back into Ubuntu but I haven’t been able to get it to run long enough to install mprime. It keeps doing a hard shutdown during boot or shortly thereafter. Right now I can’t keep it powered on for longer than ~5 minutes in either Ubuntu or Windows.
The seller asked that I record a Youtube video so they can confirm that I’m not making this up. Here it is for your enjoyment:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHo8zOqRUp4I’ve given it the ol’ shake test but motion doesn’t seem to be a factor.
July 26, 2016 at 4:47 pm #44561It ran overnight in Ubuntu with nary an issue. However, it has shutdown on me twice within half an hour of booting back to Windows.
Make that three times.
I can’t explain why it didn’t yet shutdown in Ubuntu but I’m still fairly convinced it’s hardware because it’s also done it to me twice while I was in the BIOS! Also, why is it sometimes unwilling to turn back on after the shutdown?
I’m really trying to avoid a fresh Windows reinstall. I just completed that which was half a day of work. I’m using this tablet as my work computer and it requires a ton of effort to get our company image and software on it. Any other suggestions before I have to try that?
Thanks a ton for your help so far.
July 26, 2016 at 1:27 am #44470It’s been running fine for ~4 hours on Ubuntu. But, it would sometimes run fine for up to a day in Windows so it’s hard to say if this proves anything. I’ll leave it running for a day or so and see what happens.
In the meantime, I sent a message with the AliExpress seller. I’ll see what they say.
July 25, 2016 at 11:05 pm #44466I just dug through the Event Viewer logs for System and Application. In short, it didn’t reveal any hints. The System log had the normal type of Information events right up until the shutdown. Then a shutdown happened and when it came back, there were a few Kernel entries saying that the last shutdown was “unexpected” but without clues for the cause.
I’m downloading an Ubuntu ISO. We’ll see how that goes.
July 25, 2016 at 10:55 pm #44460Those are both great tips. I hadn’t done those yet. I’ll do that and report back what I find.
Thanks.
July 21, 2016 at 10:56 pm #44145OK, this is odd.
In trying to install drivers from my backup or the one from the Download section, it would sometimes tell me that a better driver was already installed. I decided to remove the installed driver altogether so I could install the others. So, I right-clicked, chose “Uninstall”, and checked the box to also delete the driver. I rebooted… and now my my stylus works. I didn’t have to actually install anything new, I just removed that one. There are no longer any exclamation points in Device Manager.
Hope that helps others. Fingers crossed it stays fixed.
July 21, 2016 at 10:42 pm #44144One other clue: if you run the “Wacom Pen” application, it gives an error that “The tablet driver is not running.”
July 21, 2016 at 10:41 pm #44143I’m in the same boat.
Oddly my symptoms were a bit different. I had the foresight to do a full driver dump before I reinstalled Win10. However, when it installed the driver I backed up, it said there was “an error” for “wacom device” and it couldn’t be installed. After seeing your post, I tried the driver in the Downloads page which installed successfully. The stylus still doesn’t work and my Device Manager looks the same as yours.
July 21, 2016 at 2:51 am #44055Excellent. Thank you both very much!
July 12, 2016 at 7:24 am #43228Aliexpress sale is live now. Go get it!
July 9, 2016 at 4:07 am #42976Wow, GearBest also just sent me an email containing my password. I’m DEFINITELY not buying from them!
July 9, 2016 at 3:47 am #42973Well, maybe forget I asked.
GearBest’s website is pretty broken. After an hour of fiddling around, it absolutely will not let me buy the i7 Book + keyboard + stylus. Using the sale coupon code is broken, too. See the attached screenshot. I can put them all in my cart but then the code won’t work and the total price is incorrect. I can put the tablet in my cart and apply the coupon, but if I then add the keyboard and stylus to the cart it all breaks again. If they can’t even make their site work then it makes me nervous to buy from them.
The bundle on AliExpress is a few bucks more but at least they are competent enough to make their site function plus it’s Cube’s official store so it should be the latest stylus. I’ll just do that.
