I tried the PE Bootimage, but this also hangs after the “A” boot logo. I tried the Linux based media and Windows PE, created with TI 2016. Maybe the media created by a 2017 version will be more compatible? I haven’t upgraded my license yet. Booting from the EZbook would be the only reason for now – in case it works.
My observation so far is, that only the Windows 10 EFI loader seems to start correctly on this laptop.August 1, 2017 at 6:10 pm #69996Hey, that’s good news! I also received a golden model from Geekbuying the other day, but only have turned it on for a few seconds and jumped into the BIOS setup immediately, just to see, if it’s generally functioning. Now I’m curious, which WIFI chip and eMMC I will find inside my unit.
July 28, 2017 at 12:01 am #69752Hi Angelo,
sorry for the late answer, I have been busy with work (I work in IT, unfortunately 😉 )
I found a driver package from a Russian forum, wich contained the Intel Serial IO. You can access it from this link:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8dtOv_EAKXwVlowZ1RNVFNybVUBut another user here also linked to a Google drive with EZbook drivers and these are in separate folders, so you won’t have to download a 1GB archive:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BxulJuGj9f7QZWFWSzNEMVhlV2M (Folder “SIO”)I only tried the drivers from the huge archive, but I guess they should be identical.
July 25, 2017 at 8:31 pm #69659Good day Oliver Did you manage to find a way to install Windows7 on your new EZ 3 pro? It seems mine will NOT load Windows7 in *legacy* configuration…… I did find the legacy option in bios, and did enable it, and also set the ““Win 7” setting, >> Chipset->Southbridge->OS Selection” , but still it seems to only want to boot to UEFI mode. Thanks mjd
Hello lost_bro,
I didn’t spend much time, trying to install Windows 7 – one reason is, that in my experience, these Atom-like devices tend to perform better under Windows 10 or 8 than under 7. The other one being, that I didn’t have much time for experiments. 😉So far, it seems that the BIOS of the Ezbook 3 Pro only boots in EFI mode and the OS-Settings (Linux, Win7, DOS) don’t have any kind of effect. I prepared my thumdrive with the EFI files, but the Wind0ws bootloader got stuck, complaining about missing files, which were definitely present under the mentioned path. It’s possible, that it doesn’t work, because it was a multi-boot stick with GRUB loading various ISO images or the Windows bootloader. This kind of chainloading might interfere with the EFI boot, so some time later, I will create a clean, dedicated Windows 7 boot thumb drive and see, how it goes. But most likely, the install.wim will need some patching for USB drivers and maybe other things. And I won’t be suprised, if it turns out to be impossible.
July 25, 2017 at 8:19 pm #69656I’m not 100% sure, if they were missing in the original install by Jumper, because I made a fresh install of Windows very soon. But touchpad sensitivity and precision improved significantly, after installing the Intel Serial IO drivers for the Apollo Lake.
July 13, 2017 at 1:41 pm #69171I guess the CSM option might be under the “Security->Secure Boot” tab.
Also, there seems to be a “Win 7” setting, not very intuitively, under Chipset->Southbridge->OS SelectionBut these options are just hearsay, I won’t know for sure until in a few days, when I got my hands on this unit.
July 12, 2017 at 5:32 pm #69088Since I haven’t seen the BIOS setup yet, I am not sure, if you can turn off Secureboot and EFI boot (or at least enable the CSM in combination with EFI). Without further action, a thumbdrive created from the .iso won’t install in pure EFI mode, so you would have to enable the compatibility support module (CSM) in the BIOS setup. Maybe there will be a storage setting, which lets you choose “Legacy” for boot, this should also be enabled.
I am not even sure, if anyone succeeded so far in installing Windows 7 on this device. Mine should arrive in a few days (if the delivery guys won’t “lose” it again), maybe I will try a Windows 7 install myself, just for fun.
July 12, 2017 at 4:30 pm #69086Hi Alex,
get the “Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool” from Microsoft and create a bootable thumbdrive with this tool and the .iso you downloaded.
Since my laptop hasn’t arrived yet (my order from May never made it through…), I am not sure about the USB ports. If during setup the install media isn’t recognized any more, you will have to plant modern Intel USB drivers into the Windows .wim image. There are tools from e.g. ASUS and Gigabyte, which do the job. I have used the one from Gigabyte (“Windows USB Installation Tool”) with success in the past. -
