Thanks for that – under devices there are 2 there for this tablet the first has the insider version Windows 10 Core (10.0.10240.16397) and the second has Windows 10 Core (10.0.10130.0). I didn’t go to any other insider version so not sure why Home is not there. There is no entry for W8.1 though, I dont recall but I guess I may not have signed in with my ms account on that one. I’m a bit confused now.
July 31, 2015 at 9:44 am #8072If you have a tablet with a legal version of Win 8.1 which is activated you can use the tool to upgrade to Win 10, Win 10 will be automatically activated. It can take some time before its activated, the key is stored in your Microsoft account. After the upgrade you can do a clean install if you like.
As this is the Chuwi Vi10 forum I am assuming that is the device we are discussing and as such they should all have legal versions of windows on them. I think my problem might be that I did an upgrade of w8.1 to the insider version of 10 then did a wipe and clean install from usb removing the android partitions. I will still await activation but its not there yet. Can you expand further on the part about the key being stored in your MS account – can I see this somehow ? As I mentioned once one W10 I ran a tool which showed me the key I was using so I am assuming that was the one that came with the device at 8.1 although I am not 100% sure (should have saved it I know). Also there does not appear to be anything on the packaging or documentation with the windows key on it. Maybe I will contact the seller (Ali Express).
July 31, 2015 at 9:36 am #8067Can you please give some more details on this step? I’ve downloaded the double driver and extracted them to desktop.
Then in device manager there where a lot of “unknown devices” so I selected one of them and “update drive software…” and selected the extracted folder with the drivers, but it didn’t work – the updating window never finished ( I left it for over an hour and still was updating ).So I rebooted and boot loop – tried
Could you please suggest a solution?
Sorry maybe I didn’t make that clear earlier. Do not individually try and update drivers for devices with error messages. Run the double driver program exe file hit the restore button then locate the folder with all the driver backups. Make sure ALL are select – it does this by default I think and restore the whole lot. That should fix it up.
July 30, 2015 at 1:29 pm #7861Further to my earlier post yesterday I had a few problems but in the end I’m just about there and now and its not too tricky. The idea was to remove Android and use the tablet only with the new Windows 10 version.
1. Create w10 bootable usb stick using the provided MS MediaCreationtool as previously mentioned (on another PC)
2. Power on the Chuwi and hit escape key when the Chuwi logo comes up to go into boot options.
3. With keyboard keys move to boot manager section and select the usb as the bootable device and restart
4. Follow the windows install steps but go into the advanced move and delete all partitions leaving just one unallocated space of around 29gb
5. Install windows approx 15 mins.
6. This left me with touch screen, audio and sd card not working amongst other things and windows not activated.
7. Download and run double driver and restore all the drivers from the download on this forum. I tried individually restoring drivers and got in a boot loop but doing the whole lot should work.
8. This should fix all device issues but the touch screen will not be calibrated correctly and your touch points will be all over the place. To fix this take the 2 files in the download section Sileadtouch.fw and .sys and add them to c/windows/system32 and after reboot all should be good.
9. Last issue is activation – mine is not activated. I read somewhere the licence key is embedded in the hardware on these tablets and that it might take some time to activate. We will see – in the meantime I used this product key finder http://nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html which did bring me up a key but it did not work on activation. Any ideas on that ?
10. All in all I think its working well, seems pretty quick and there are lots of new things to play with.
July 29, 2015 at 3:38 pm #7779I didnt have the upgrade icon, I joined the windows insider program and did it from their links but it did just update w8.1 leaving my old files and programs. As I understand it if you have the icon the update will be rolled out in stages – not 100% sure though.
July 29, 2015 at 3:15 pm #7772I’ve just done it now. I went windows 8.1 to Windows 10 insider previews a little while back and now just done a clean install on windows 10 public released version and deliberately wiped the android partitions to give it all to windows. First issues – no audio drivers, and micro sd card not recognised – also windows activation not carried thru. I’ll update here when I get somewhere -the drivers may be ok from the ones saved on this site. Windows update has not picked them up. It looks good and feels quicker than 8.1.. .so far. – also touch screen not working – bluetooth mouse and supplied keyboard work well.
July 24, 2015 at 3:06 pm #7409I just got my 64gb Samsung micro sdxc card and it picked it up no problem in windows and android.
July 15, 2015 at 12:40 pm #7022Thanks, the file in the link would not install for me I got a decompression error on memu.ova, I’ll try the other option and see.
July 14, 2015 at 3:48 pm #6989Just seen it in another post – keyboard attached hit escape on reboot when chuwi logo comes up. As an aisde I have tried a few programs to run as an android emulator with no luck – AndyOS, Bluestacks, Youwave and Genymotion – Various errors but I assume we are under rammed. If anyone has done this I would like to know.
July 14, 2015 at 9:57 am #6970Hi,
Might be a dumb question but how do you boot from iso in these? I have tried the power up with volume down button on but it just gives me the option to choose to boot into android or windows. I’ve got my bootable usb stick with the iso on it but just cant get the device to pick it at boot time. I already went with the auto update from 8.1 to w10 10130 but want to go to the latest. I might well also bin the android side if I can get something like Bluestack emualtor working on it.Cheers
MartinJuly 9, 2015 at 10:05 am #6705Hi,
Thanks for that. That is the driver that I had. I updated from 8.1 to Windows 10 to see if that helped and I got some new drivers but the problem remained.
However, I am now pretty sure its down to sd card /manufacturer/windows/device compatibility. I gathered a load of sd cards from friends and got odd results. My 64gb Lexar micro sdxc didn’t work nor did 2 of my 32gb cards. A 32gb Samsung sdhc however worked fine as did a Transcend. I intend to get a 64gb Samsung sdhc as I know the 32gb works and I will see if that is ok.
So I think this is a compatibility issue more likely down to the hardware rather than the o/s ? but having said that the 64gb worked ok on the android side!!July 8, 2015 at 11:16 am #6665I got my Vi10 yesterday and iniital impressions are positive. I did some windows updates and then hit the same problem as above – SD card device code 10 error. I am not sure if the driver was updated during the windows updates or not but I’m rolling them back to see. The card works fine in another laptop and its a known name from a reputable supplier. Has anyone else hit this problem and anyone got ides to fix ?
Thanks
