What makes you say it’s Refind ?
Did someone managed to run linux without Refind ?
October 23, 2017 at 7:33 pm #73845I confirme the issue.
I use Ubuntu 17.10 and at every reboot I lost the touchpad, sometimes in Windows (10) too…
To avoid the problem the laptop isn’t powered down… Only sleeping…
The only way I have found to restore touchpad is to boot with USB key with Ubuntu 17.10 (isorespined).
This problem happens only when I boot on Ubuntu… I also suspect rEFInd… I’m not a specialist but it seems not possible to boot Ubuntu 17.10 with Grub (Apollo Lake problem)…
If you find a solution plz post… š
October 27, 2017 at 6:50 am #73992Guys, any news on this? I was just about to buy this laptop as it’s dirt cheap and lubuntu will do just fine on it, but if installing Linux on it freezes the touchpad I have to turn to something else. I don’t have the laptop, yet is there anything I can do to help fixing this? I really would like to help.

Have you tried Manjaro Xfce or Antergos Gnome?

November 3, 2017 at 12:22 am #74319i give up. I cannot fix it. V4, that is the only problem. Everything else is fixed. ubuntu 17.10 kernel 4.13.0-16
November 3, 2017 at 3:40 pm #74348I have temporary solution. It’s a bit dirty but works.
If you only suspending or eventualy restarting computer, touchpad should work in both OS. But if you need to turn off, a easiest way to restore touchpad is :
- plug linux live usb, unplug mouse etc
- go to bios
- restore defaults -> save settings and reset
- go to bios again and pick boot from usb
- touchpad shoud be restored
- reboot and unplug usb

Did anyone tried other version of Refined (some older maybe)?

Yep, on unlocked bios select “Intel Linux” in “Chipset OS Selection” parameter. After that at GRUB starts to work fine, I’ve successfuly installed Ubuntu 17.10 from vanilla image.
November 6, 2017 at 7:58 pm #74482I did that once, and after i’ve changed Chipset OS Selection to “Intel Linux”, my start screen start to be dimmed out, and i cant’t enter to bios anymore (keyboard didn’t respond).
But i can confirm that Grub is working with these settings (but cannot operate in grub becouse keyboard don’t work until system start) š

Yep, on unlocked bios select āIntel Linuxā in āChipset OS Selectionā parameter. After that at GRUB starts to work fine, Iāve successfuly installed Ubuntu 17.10 from vanilla image.
What is unlocked BIOS? How did you flash it? Can you explain bit more?
November 8, 2017 at 10:42 am #74563Ok one more thing. I’m using refund and Linux for 5 days and apart from my physical buttons still not working everything is an it should. Touch wood never had any problem with touchpad freezing. The only thing I can think of is that I removed unneeded drivers from rEFInd folder. Basically I can’t reproduce that bug. Hope I will never be able.
November 9, 2017 at 11:43 am #74599I just got my notebook and had this problem after I went into bios enabled it to boot from USB drive and tested booting from a working USB installation of Manjaro 17 (which would not boot on the EZB3Pro v4 but works fine on my Lenovo G50 notebook).Ā After that the touchpad was frozen on Windows and I had to reset BIOS defaults to get it working again. This is pretty much what you guys found above.Ā I’ll update later when I get it configured and try installing Linux on it.
November 9, 2017 at 4:26 pm #74616Well I tried Manjaro Xfce 17.05. Ā The live-USB created by burning the ISO to usb with the Etcher program… it would not boot. Ā I tried selecting OS type “Linux” in the BIOS and that resulted in a black screen and when going back into the BIOS settings the screen was so dim you almost could not read it… and what’s worse the keyboard (arrow keys) were no longer responding when in the BIOS settings so I could not put it back to booting Windows – so the system was dead. The only solution was to open it up, disconnect the battery, and reconnect it again. That enabled me to get it booting windows again.
2nd attempt was with Antergos 17.09 (which defaults to the Gnome desktop) and that booted fine after just changing the boot priority to the USB drive. Ā I’m using it right now as I type this and audio, touchpad, wifi, and screen brightness are all working.
I have not yet tried to install it. Ā Will update later…
[edit:] booting back into Windows after using the Antergos Live-USB boot, I just got the touchpad freeze problem.November 9, 2017 at 5:05 pm #74617I did that once, and after iāve changed Chipset OS Selection to āIntel Linuxā, my start screen start to be dimmed out, and i cantāt enter to bios anymore (keyboard didnāt respond). @tDev if you keyboard is still not working, disconnect and reconnect your battery.Ā That will restore it.Ā I had the same problem when doing that (changing OS selection to Linux).

Ā No, the frozen touchpad problem is not caused by rEFInd as I just hit the problem after booting the Antergos 17.09 live-USB which does not use rEFInd.
