my results are little better then daniels.. but as i have usually had same results on my desktop usb 3.0 i thought its fine. as for usb 2.0 on my desktop i have never seen speeds beyond 12 mbps. so dont know what to think…
12Mbps is actually the speed limit of USB 1.1 so it may either be a port issue on your desktop or a bad USB controller on that particular port.
For those interested, I’m using a Sandisk Ultra Flair 16GB USB 3.0 drive. I’d have used my PNY 128GB USB 3.0 drive but I lent it out for the time being. Shame though, that drive ran ridiculously fast.
June 23, 2016 at 12:27 pm #41818Just got my USB-C 3.0 Adapter (Metal body Baseus adapter):
USB-C adapter:

USB 2.0 on the keyboard:

USB 2.0 OTG:

USB 3.0 on my desktop (reference):

Nope, USB 3.0 is not working properly.
June 22, 2016 at 3:16 pm #41732i haven’t gotten a chance to try everything but i did try the usb otg. usb-c works like a charm. i got normal usb 3.0 speeds i get on my desktop. using a sandisk usb 3.0 drive. so chuwimhas definetly used usb 3.0 port there..
Awesome. I’m getting my OTG adapter tomorrow and I’ll be able to test mine too. Let’s see if we can get USB 3.0 speeds (which would mean it could be an adapter thing…)
any idea how to get sdcard working again? it worked initially but after sometime it has stopped working in windows. i tred to check the drivers but nothing doing…
Does your Realtek card reader still show up under device manager? If it’s completely gone, it may be a hardware failure. Otherwise, it may be disabled or have a yellow exclamation mark indicating failure to initiate device driver.
June 18, 2016 at 2:29 pm #41400No, it’s definitely limited to USB 2.0 speeds. They falsely advertise OGS, Gorilla Glass, and USB 3.0. Perhaps they don’t have regulators to keep them accountable? I just did the 3DMark Ice Storm benchmark and got 13,888. Then I downloaded the newest (June 17, 2016) drivers and my score went down to around 10,000. I’m going back to the faster drivers!
That’s weird, I used the latest drivers from Intel for this score. Wonder what could be causing the discrepancy?
June 18, 2016 at 10:55 am #41377The Sandisk Ultra microSDXC 64GB (SDSQUNC-64G) works fine as well. Formatted to exFAT so only working on Windows (I have files >4GB that I have to store unfortunately).
This USB-C adapter from Tmall works as well:

Anyone has suggestions on apps that can read exFAT cards on Android?
June 18, 2016 at 5:05 am #41361Good stuff, thank you for writing it up! When was your order placed? Do we have any idea when the hardware revision happened, serial number range or any other indicator? CHUWI claims that they use a non-laminated OGS on the HiBook, and has always claimed that every HiBook was OGS in this way. But can they opt out of the lamination step and still call it OGS? <span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>Are you able to write with a stylus? Mine fails pretty badly in apps like INKredible on Android. My finger is ok, but too clumsy for my taste (my fingertips aren’t very accurate!) I wonder if your screen is improved. </span>
Nope, you can’t call it an OGS display without full lamination. The idea is that the screen should be adhesively bonded to the front glass (therefore the name one-glass solution) and that implies full lamination. It’s probably just being thrown in as a marketing term. The touchscreen on mine is fine (quite satisfactory for me actually) but I haven’t tested it with a stylus on Android. Let me download INKredible and try out as well with my POLAR pen stylus.
I recently received OTG adapters for both microUSB and Type-C. My HiBook ordered May 10th, serial Q64G45160401654 must be the new revision. I can power my 1TB portable backup drive from Type-C, microUSB, and both keyboard dock ports.
I ordered by Hibook on the 5th of June, serial Q64G45160502606. Seems like they revised it quietly a lot earlier then.
Just tested the stylus with the Hibook with INKredible, no luck. It doesn’t track reliably. Finger and touch input is really good otherwise.

Have you managed to get USB3 speeds off your USB-C OTG adapter (I’m assuming it’s USB3 too)
June 18, 2016 at 2:00 am #41357Thanks for this mini review, glad they fix the annoying USB port issue. Can you please run 3Dmark in Windows 10 and see if it’s better than what I got in my review. My Windows 10 performance was no way near what it should have been.
Updated the first post with the 3DMark Ice Storm benchmark, it’s way better than your score of 8000+ in the review. Definitely another fixed point.
June 13, 2016 at 11:16 pm #40877Yeah, the lack of Adblock is a definite con and I share that sentiment with you too.
The YouTube issue is really due to Chrome, though. Try firing up Edge and running Big Buck Bunny of YouTube at 2160p. Seems to run fine for me. I get the same issues as you face on Chrome too, 100% CPU usage, although 1080p videos play (relatively) smoothly on mine for the most part even on Chrome.
I’ve gotten another OTG USB-C (3.0) adapter on the way in anticipation of the other one not working, I’ll probably sell that one I got initially on Carousell. It’s the Baseus one without the power in.
Taobao’s 聚划算 page is where all the current time sales are consolidated into one page for easy reference, that’s why I use it. Otherwise I search Taobao manually like you too. Another option is to follow(关注)the stores; you’ll be notified when they put sales up if you have the mobile app.
I’ll run some benchmarks as well this weekend to see if performance has improved. I certainly think so though, my tablet seems a lot faster than the Chris’ in his video.
June 13, 2016 at 5:57 am #40742I meant to say that I don’t think my ‘updated’ Hibook’s screen is OGS despite the image saying so – there is a definite large gap between the screen and the glass and it’s nothing like my iPhone. I’m a little disappointed but the screen is still bright and clear nevertheless.
For the touch issue: I can type rapidly without problems (I suspect yours may be some lag, especially if you’re referring to the Hibook pro), but I do experience similar things on Chrome as you do. For me though, I think it’s a Chrome thing though, since I’ve not experienced anything as such on Edge and have always used Edge as a result. I believe Chris has spoken before on how Edge is far more optimised on atom tablets (and generally better for touch imo).
Yep, ezbuy was formerly 65daigou. You can find deals like this all the time on Taobao actually, the Tbook 10 went on sale for 1079 yuan with the keyboard two hours on 聚划算 too.
I’ll have the adapter by Friday latest and review it for y’all, including the tablet itself too.
If any of you have anything specific you’d like me to test, do let me know too 🙂
June 13, 2016 at 4:46 am #40737As mentioned in my post the OGS screen revision doesn’t seem to hold true as there is definitely still a gap on mine… A little disappointed if you ask me.
I haven’t had any touch issues at all! I know what you mean as I owned an Onda V891W back in the day and it’d do the exact same thing too. Touch is definitely slightly less accurate in Windows than android but I haven’t had it miss my touches (almost) at all, which makes typing quite enjoyable. At worst, it’s just slightly off, causing a mis-click. I definitely haven’t had problems hitting the close buttons or changing tabs on chrome. I wouldn’t know exactly how bad yours is but from how badly you put it I’d say I don’t face any such issue that you seem to have.
The USB-C adapter is here: http://tmqd.me/h.Z02u49?cv=AAFlRTiW&sm=f56993
I got it thanks to ezbuy.sg ship-for-me. Ordered on 4th, shipped 5th, arrived at the forwarder on the 6th and hit Singapore by 9th. There is a ridiculously competitive Taobao forwarder scene here.
edit: I did forget to mention that the 1089CNY price was a time sale (聚划算)with limited units that I snapped up. I’ve been eyeing this tablet for a while.
June 13, 2016 at 1:17 am #40729Hey guys,
I just got my HiBook last Friday directly off their flagship store on Tmall (they were running it for 1089 CNY incl. the keyboard dock). Got it over to my place via a forwarder for another $5.
Their new marketing images suggest that it’s running an OGS screen (yes I’m referring to the 1080p HiBook, see attachment) but I can confirm this is not so. There’s still that (rather large) gap, however the screen is nice and bright still.
I have been able to power my 2.5″ HDDs off the keyboard dock though! My Orico HDD case (2588US3) doesn’t have any issues and my 1TB Samsung drive spins up and shows up with Windows without any issues.
Let me know if you want me to test anything else! I’ve my USB 3.0 OTG adapter (Baseus branded, also from Tmall) on the way.
All the best guys 🙂

Battery life would be the biggest deal breaker for most. Around 5 hours, 3 if gaming non-stop, but that’s normal for gaming. But even my Surface Pro 4 gets only 6 hours web use, about 3 gaming.
Awesome.
Now to decide between fighting for 10 units at the Banggood sale or buying one off China straight at 11.11 prices (which comes with a free keyboard case, stand, fishbone, stylus, earphone splitter & cleaning cloth).
November 10, 2015 at 11:10 am #15481x98 Plus is cheaper. x98 Pro has better cpu against Plus, in terms of CPU Z8500. Plus has a different design. It look fresh. But hard to tell if it is better than Pro from these promotion picture. I would suggest x98 Pro, as I am currently using it as my main tablet and the build quality is good .
Thanks for your input! I definitely like the design of the Plus better although I don’t know if it’d be painful to hold. I’m a bit torn between them though, I’d love dual boot still because Android is still the best for multimedia and entertainment (when I’m not working) but the amount of space I’d need to give up is a little 🙁
@Daniel Wong Teclast suffers from issues right now. All of their X98 variants have issues that if I had known about I would not have bought. -bad battery life -crashing -overheating followed by crashing Consider the other brands as well and have a VERY GOOD look in these forums. I wish I had done that, I own a crappy X98 PRO right now but could have had something working for the same money or less
As expected, not much has changed from the days where I owned an Onda. Granted the Onda’s screen was hopeless and touch sensitivity complete nonsense and things have improved. Definitely one of the breaking points for me.
After updating the bios mine is now pretty stable. For the money ~£150 I can’t imagine getting anything nearly as good. If you just need a laptop then maybe a refurbished laptop from ebay would be better but for what it is nothing seems to come close. My battery life is now not bad in windows ~5hours but you will need to charge everyday as standby time is not as good as most tablets (my ipad can be left uncharged for weeks and will only lose a little battery) My tablet has never overheated but I don’t push it to the limit, this is not a powerful machine and I wouldn’t use it for anything too demanding.
I’m actually going to get it straight off Taobao so it’s even cheaper 🙂 and yep you definitely have a good point about not pushing it to the limits! I’m okay with the battery life and having to charge it daily but I’m still sort of uncertain as to whether it’ll actually be stable or not (as Dennis very rightly pointed out my concerns having been a former Chinese tablet owner). Granted, the main reason why I’d take a Pro over the Plus is that Teclast would have fixed more problems already than they would with a new model.
I’ll be considering if I should get it especially with the oncoming 11.11 sale… if I manage to grab it for $115 on Banggood it’s probably a no-brainer. Thanks so much for your input guys!
