Hi! Ferdinand, great info out there. Is it not possible to use the first SSD slot instead? I am planning to wait for WiFi 6E or Intel AX210 card a bit longer as the latest one and already started rolling this year. Please see attached photo. Thanks!
Hello Thomas!
It’ll work, however the primary SSD slot is PCIe x4, the secondary slot is only x2, so you won’t get the full speed of your Samsung 980 SSD if you’re using it in the second one.
December 30, 2020 at 9:12 am #220804No, I don’t think you can.
December 30, 2020 at 8:09 am #220800I just installed the BIOS that came out last month and you are right the latest 3 versions doesn’t have the patches. I guess I don’t really use those, I think the stock fan profile is okay, although I dont use the notebook heavily, I dont play games (well I do, but on Geforce Now, so it’s only a video stream).
December 30, 2020 at 8:04 am #220799You can always use a BT dongle that you plug in the USB port on the left when you need it. The lack of bluetooth functionality doesn’t come from installing this particular AX200 card, but because the nature of the m2 adapter we are using here.
“Cards like the AX200 are designed to be used in M.2 Type E connectors; they are not designed to be used in M.2 Type M connectors (this is what we have). Using an adapter to convert between the two is not complete; the M.2 Type M connector does not provide the USB 2.0 lane required to support Bluetooth.”

December 30, 2020 at 7:15 am #220795Hello Marco
You must use the secondary M2 SSD slot, because the AC8265 is soldered on, you can’t replace it by simply disconnect the old one and pop in the new one. Please note that by using m2 slot via adapter, you lose the built in bluetooth funcionality.

August 11, 2020 at 5:55 am #183759I bought the newest Xiaomi AX3600 router and here is a speedtest I measured. Absolutely insane that this speed is on WIFI.

May 10, 2019 at 4:18 pm #151699Amazing, did you do both fans? Are the fans hard to disassemble and add the lithium grease too? Apart from an SSD upgrade I have not messed with much laptop hardware.
Yes, I applied lithium grease to both of the fans, I figured since I already opened up my laptop, might as well do both, not just the one that grinds. Not hard at all, if you’ve already removed the bottom plate, its only 4 additional screws on each side of the fan. The fan blade itself is held in place by magnets. Be careful to lift the fan perpendicular the the laptop and dont bend it.
Report back how it went!
May 5, 2019 at 6:29 am #151622Thanks for this tip, is it still working?
Yeah, the fans operate silently.
February 9, 2019 at 5:29 am #150405I have found the battery life reduction from the “stock” images seems to be related to what services are running in the background and some Google Chrome Site Isolation / Malware settings [software reporter tool] (if Chrome is installed). When I stripped out most of the “stuff” that is not need out of the Windows 10 base image (Direct from Microsoft), stripped out all the unneeded drivers, removed / disabled all the “bloatware”, the machine ran WAY FASTER and battery life doubled.
Hey wilmafingerdo, do you think it is possible to disable the mentioned services AFTER you have an installed and well established system, which you don’t want to reinstall?
Cheers,
Ferdinand
February 2, 2019 at 4:44 am #150364Fan noise yes is a bit of a pain at times, on with just surfing the net using Chrome. But all depends on the bios version how bad it is. Battery life I can still manage about 7 hours on mine. The main thing is to remain on the factory image I fine. My clean install I was only getting 5 hours of battery life. By far I think it’s one of the best laptops for the price. I can’t wait for the new model this year.
Hi Chris!
I would also be interested, why the chinese factory image performs so much better regarding battery life than the reinstalled english iso.
October 13, 2018 at 3:46 am #147619Try to install this and see if it solves the issue:
September 22, 2018 at 4:53 am #147059A friend of mine reflected on this ‘monitor OC’ possibility (he works in a notebook repair shop and is very good at it), but he said without proper precautions, the IPS panel won’t live too long. I try to translate his opinion as best as I could, but I’m not entirely familiar with the jargon:
‘Yes, it’s possible to overclock the panel to 70 Hz, even 75 Hz if it doesn’t show any artifacts, but in this case the COF-controller must be led out to the rear side of the panel casing, if its material is metal, but if plastic you have to stick in a thin copper pad in order to lead away the emergent warmth, otherwise the IPS panel won’t live too long.”
Just his two cents.
Cheers
