Hi MM3
Thanks for the advice. I’m expecting the phone in the next day or two. I will give it a try with the included ROM (I’m betting it will be a buggered up version like you describe) and, if I encounter any issues at all, I’ll follow your advice above.
Thanks for taking the time to share. Appreciate it.

August 19, 2018 at 5:30 pm #145677Hi
If that’s an accurate reflection of what happens in the UK then that’s a bit concerning! I ordered the Mi Max 3 from Gearbest and expect it in the next week or two. The only reason I went for it is believing it would work on Tesco Mobile (O2 network) in the UK. If it can only manage 2G that would be a huge disappointment…

July 28, 2018 at 10:58 am #144856I did notice that there’s currently a dearth of decent looking covers for it. My wife uses the ageing Lenovo Phab with a 6.8″ screen and we have a reasonable wallet style case for it. Right now there seems to be hardly any decent options for the Mi Max 3… though I did find this one possibility on Amazon…
Looking forward to your follow up review…
cheers

July 27, 2018 at 11:17 pm #144849Great initial review. Seems like a real step up from the max 2 in the areas that count…
July 22, 2018 at 5:38 am #144695Sounds like DHL from his earlier comment above…
July 21, 2018 at 3:12 pm #144684Ditto… 😉

July 21, 2018 at 2:28 pm #144681Nope. Never used them. I’ve successfully ordered the Cube i9 (which Chris reviewed) via GearBest and again for the Mi A1 for my kids. I also find that there’s an Ireland based eBay trader that sells a lot of Chinese kit at a modest premium over China prices. However, right now the cheapest eBay seller is selling at GBP100 more than TradingShenzen on eBay UK. That’s far too much of an ‘idiot tax’ for my tastes…
I have used Oppomart to buy my Oneplus 5T and that, eventually, arrived… I’m not sure I’d recommend them.

July 21, 2018 at 2:01 pm #144679Geekbuying is GBP249.98 for the base model with free delivery. Never bought from these guys though so no experience of how reliable they are?
July 21, 2018 at 1:57 pm #144678Goldway are selling them on Aliexpress but seem to be a bit more pricey. GBP264.62 + 20.30 DHL delivery taking 30 to 38 days… That’s the base model
July 21, 2018 at 1:52 pm #144677…so about GBP240 at the moment for the 64GB/4GB RAM version on TradingShenzen. Doesn’t seem too bad but I think I will wait for the expert view before committing 🙂
Chris, please touch on whether you get hit for additional taxes with TS delivery when it arrives…

July 21, 2018 at 1:49 pm #144676Seems to be back in stock on Tradingshenzen
July 20, 2018 at 2:11 pm #144649Cheers for that Chris. So B20 ought to mean 4g will work fine on O2 UK.
Sadly tradingshenzen has run out of stock already. That said, I think I’d rather wait for your critique of the beast before parting with cash. It’s actually for my other half. Shes had a thing for giant phones for years now.
We’ve been through two of those early Asus Tablet phones, the Fonepads, and now the Lenovo Phab Plus with a 16:9 ratio 6.8″ HD screen. It’s been pretty OK, but it’s really showing its age now and it’s stuck on Android 5. Definitely time for an upgrade I think. I was really hoping that the rumours of a version of the Mi Max 3 running the 710 chipset was going to be true. Seems not?
cheers
