I don’t know the reason are the 2.4 or 5 ghz band. But where I tried there are 2 connections 2.4 and one 5ghz. With the last drivers I could barely connect to those at 2.4 with a speed less than 0,5 Mbps and continuos disconnections. With old drivers I can see the 5ghz wifi and connect. So, the wifi range has been extended with old drivers. I’ve just read somewhere, maybe in one thread of this forum, that there is an issue between a WIN update and the newest drivers for the wifi adapter of these pcs. Then, maybe this is the biggest problem: imcompatibility of the drivers with newest versions of WIN10.
August 1, 2018 at 10:46 am #145024Exactly, I let WIN does his stuff
August 1, 2018 at 9:49 am #145021Yes, I’m 100% sure. I was nearly purchasing an external wifi antenna for the frustration I was in. To roll back first uninstall the pro-set wireless software, then go to device manager, go to the Intel dual band wireless AC-3165, select driver and click on “uninstall device”. Finally, Win will install the first driver.
I was in a room poorly reached by the wifi signal, and the rollback gave me a boost on the connection. I’ve also used my Android phone as an external wifi antenna via USB and it worked great wen the last driver 20.06 was installed. But now I don’t need it anymore.
August 1, 2018 at 8:57 am #145019Hey, I’m back.
What I can say is that there is some battery drain even when the pc is shut down, and this doesen’t make any sense at all. So, I think is the battery that is poorly packed and suffers of weather discharge, it’s the phenomenon which occurs on all batteries on the earth’s face, but this time is enhanced by the low quality of the battery package. And we cannot do anything to prevent such discharge, it’s natural and it’s also a sign of the battery is slowly dying.
I have installed ALL the WIN10 updates and the pc works perfectly.
One thing has to be said: DO NOT UPDATE MANUALLY THE DRIVERS FOR THE WIFI ADAPTER! I’ve tried 3 versions of the dirver and the one which actually works great is the one already installed, number 19.51.12.3 of 12/03/2018. I’ve tried the 19.6something and the 20.06 (the last I found in the Intel download pages) and the signal got weaker and weaker under the same connection on the same conditions, from nearly 20 Mbps, to 10 Mbps reaching less than 1 Mbps with the last driver. So I disinstalled the Intel pro-set wireless and the driver for the wifi adapter, and windows installed the first driver found in the pc and everything now is fine.
June 21, 2018 at 11:15 am #144052For drainage when used, that makes sense I guess. For the power loss while off, that would seem weird for it to be the eMMC – you’d expect every owner to report the same issue, no?
I think it’s a kind of sleep circuit which give power to eMMC even if it’s off, like the CMOS battery. Is there anyone who has completely disassembled the pc?
June 21, 2018 at 10:57 am #144050Why do you think the SSD would be draining the battery? I’m very interested cause mine also loses power while off
It’s only a personal opinion. For the power loss while off I think the problem is the eMMC, for the drainage when used I think it’s the running SSD that I don’t use. That’s only because more hardware linked to the same battery means more power to deliver.
June 21, 2018 at 9:10 am #144046Soooooo, guys, I’m back with more and more problems! YAY!!
Ok, first: did you remember that I’ve incorrectly done the heatsink mod? Ok, so, I re-opened the lid, made the right correction to the heatsink, screw back everything aaaaaaaand…. TA-DAAAA!!!! When Booting win10 gave me a critical error message code 0x0000000e which is a system32 file missing!!! $h!t!! So, deep in the particulars, after two of three hours of immersive blog and MS troubleshoot Q/A, the story is actually trivial tho: this kind of message is received only by drivers which have a dual live boot seen only by win boot manager and not by the BIOS, i.e. 1 fisical hard drive partitioned in 2 with 2 working versions of win 10! So, my two drives (physically separated) are seen as one! The bad thing was that I was able to properly boot only once on a while, attempting to boot several times. Fortunately, I was able to recover the original version of win10 on the eMMC, but now I can’t boot in the SSD. I have an idea, in the boot options in the BIOS I can see only the Windows Boot Manager and the UEFI Shell, but I can’t see the name of the drives, so, in my opinion, the BIOS is part of the eMMC, and if I want to boot directly from the SSD I NEED to clone the eMMC to the SSD (and that’s what I don’t want to do!). Maybe, cloning the entire eMMC to the SSD will clone also the hidden partitions that made the boot possible, so MAYBE once cloned in the SSD, I can install win10 from zero in the SSD without formatting the hidden partitions. I’ll do this in very short time.
Second: my SSD cost only 35$, so I can immagine that the performance aren’t the same for a 100$ or more SSD, CDM gave me a result that is only doubled the speed of the eMMC in write, in read is like 5 times more.
Third: my wifi card. First month I haven’t any kind of problem, now, it’s a pain in the A$5!!! I think it’s a mounting problem, maybe I’ve tightened the screws too hard and the lid is blocking the signal.
Fourth: Battery drain. My EzBook is suffering of battery drainage even if it’s switch off, or maybe it’s only my hysteria. Also, the battery has some hours of usage left. I’m start to think maybe it’s due to the SSD which is still there in place and is detected by win in the task manager.
But there’re some pros: The display is really a joy to watch, the mouse pad is really accurate.
I’ve spent around 250$ for everything (including the SSD, thermal paste and pads, copper pad, teflon and silver tapes and an expansion bay 6 in 1 for the lan). This PC is only a tryout to see if these ultrabooks could be a good thing for my productivity, and it’s a BIG YES!!!
June 4, 2018 at 2:42 pm #143606Aaand, I cannot manage to recognize the two unknow hardwares
June 4, 2018 at 2:35 pm #143603then you need to change it in your bios, but sometimes they do not allow 2 boot drives. and yes see: A Question to all Batterie Problem Jumpers
In BIOS I can only change between Windows Boot Manager e UEFI: Sell… Something.
I’m reading right now the other thread
June 4, 2018 at 2:18 pm #1435992 is easy run diskmgmt.msc remove the efi boot partition from the eMMC BUT you should be able to permanent select a boot drive in the last bios window. and while you are at it how much ampere has your charger? if it is a 3A you better keep a close eye on the battery.
Oh, maybe this changing of disk management is too overkill for me. I just wanto to start the boot directly from ssd, but I want to mantain the possibility to boot from eMMC just in case of necessity
Yes, my charger is 3000 mAh, why do I need to keep an eye on the battery? Are there any chance to fry the battery?
June 4, 2018 at 1:22 pm #143596so, how did it work out?
Soooooo, here I am with my EzBook 3 Pro with a freshly installed win10 on a WD green SSD 2280 120 gb!
Yesterday I modded the heatsink, but I made a little mistake, I put a thermal pad between the copper plate and the heatsink and nod the external chassis is a little deformed. And today I’ve installed win10 on the sata m.2 ssd and everything went ok. I let windows do all his stuff, once installed I manually checked for updates on device manager and then windows made a few updates. The feel is very better, it’s impressively faster than before!
But, there’re some “issues”:
- In device manager I have a “unknow device” and a “PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller” and I’m not able to find out what are (now I’m downloading the Intel driver updater)
- There’s no clue to modify the Boot option, in order to boot directly from the ssd, so when it boots Microsoft boot manager starts and asks me to choose a drive from where to load win10.
These are not huge problems, but I want to resolve them, to have a better PC experience.
Soo, with less than 250$ (euros, instead) I have a fully working ultrabook, ultrathin with a good battery (I was able to surf the web for more or less 8 hours straight). I’m very proud of this EzBook!
June 4, 2018 at 8:20 am #143589I just ordered an EZBook 3 Pro. I want to install an SSD in it – I see people here are trying to mod it so they can fit the longer 2280 drives – what’s the point? Why not just insert a 2240? Why are 2280’s better? I only intend to put a 128 or 256gb in mine.
Because 2280 SSDs are cheaper and faster than 2240. Also, 2240s are only 256 gb at max
May 30, 2018 at 10:40 am #143453Unfortunately I was not able to do the ssd installation because of my job, I’m abroad right now. I’ll have a short week home before going in France for two months, so in these days I’ll probably do this installation and I’ll do the heatsink mod (I’ve already bought the copper square, thermal paste and thermal pads). I’ve a question regarding the heatsink mod: is that a safe and good mod? I mean, won’t the copper plate move easily or will I be careful when I move the pc with me?
May 30, 2018 at 9:06 am #143452Same problem with SSD here. I tried to install WD Black 256 GB disk, which doesn’t fit mechanically as expected. Looks like it is a fraction of mm wider than socket and thus can’t be pushed all the way in the socket. Perhaps this is the problem that I can’t see disk in Disc Manager or is it something else. I can’t check if the SSD actually works as I don’t have other machine with requested socket.
No!!!!! What you’ve done??? WD black is nvme ssd! It doesen’t fit because it’s a SATA slot and not a Pcie!!!! Please do yourself a favour, return that ssd where you bought and take a normal SATA ssd 2280 instead.
May 19, 2018 at 2:49 pm #143164not! you would think that since it is an intel board with only intel chips ms update will work flawless. Sadly it is not the case. Do your self a big favor and read a few hours through this forum, see where and why people have problems. Then follow the recommendations of my first post (link below). AND you still will be at 100% when you watch youtube and other things. That is normal with this ultra low powered N3450. The SSD will just make the boot time and loading time a tiny bit faster and you have more capacity, that is all. If the boot time is OK with you it will be much easier to just install the ssd as a secondary drive and tell windows it should use this drive for all things (files etc). 5 min work no stress and everything works, you have even your ssd and emmc combined memory available this way. The other way will be much more exiting and time consuming, like a big adventure with unknown outcome. have fun
Maybe I’m little too ambitious, but I’ve read this entire thread twice, and I’ve found out that there are several members who successfully did the same thing I have in mind to do with my EzBook. So, I’ll take the pill and go along for what I’ve decided to do. And, for the 100% of cpu usage during videos, I’ve found somewhere in MS forums, that the problem can be in some sort of update conflict, and a fresh installation of win10 could get rid of this issue. I’ll give you further details about my work. Cheers
