BIOS version:  Press Esc  or Supr while booting to enter the BIOS, look for Project Version

Key combos (copied from another post on this forum)

If you hold down the volume up key together with the power button it will override this and boot up to the dual boot screen

    DNX BOOT MODE

Entered by holding down volume down and power buttons…

    FASTBOOT mode

Entered from dual boot menu… select android & hit OK. .. then press volume down & up buttons together until you see the FASTBOOT screen….

    Android Safe mode…

Entered by touching and holding the power off option from the shut down menu and a new window will pop up asking if you want to boot into safe mode…

Copper pad for the CPU:  I used a 1 mm thick one above CPU and RAM chips.  (15×15 mm on the CPU, and 7×15 mm above each pair of RAM chips)- I used Artic silver thermal paste to be sure that it will make good contact.

Then, I added a 50 x 50 x 0.5 mm silicone thermal pad between the EMI shield and the back of the tablet.

1 mm thick may be too much, it will make the tablet motherboard press against the back of the screen.

To open the tablet start by the top, where the white plastic band is. I used a knife to open a little and the with just a finger nail, slowly unlocking the plastic tabs all around. The corners are difficult, there are plastic tools to do this kind of job, try to find some hard plastic thing like a credit card.

When putting back the back cover, start with the tablet in horizontal position, with the buttons down, put the buttons in the holes in the back cover and then fit the corresponding edge of the tablet. Continue closing the back, pressing around until all plastic latches click in place.

The tablet comes with a Windows 10 license on the BIOS, it activates with no problem. Yo don’t need a special Windows version from Teclast. I’m using Windows 10  November 2015 edition downloaded from Microsoft and it’s activated.

Power tips:  I don’t know if it’s my unit that behaves in a really weird way, but if someone experiences the same difficulties, I have been performing tests with 6 different chargers, 7 different USB cables and an amperimeter….

The circuit controlling the battery of this device does not behave on the expected way. It seems to have two modes:

    • 4.44 V on the USB port: Windows detects this as “running on battery”, and the tablet does not charge with any charger
    • 5.1 V on the USB port: Windows detects this as “plugged-in” and the tablet charges

The amount of current it takes is pretty random, when the battery is low I’ve seen it draw 1.8 A, when it is almost full it lowers to 1.35A

But sometimes it enters a state where it only draws 0.45A. To get the tablet out of this my trick is to plug it a charger that is not connected to the wall, that must discharge some capacitor or something like that, and then the tablet goes back to fast charging mode.

Be aware that this thing eats so much power that with the screen at 100% brightness and a 3D game the charger will not be able to keep the battery charged.

Long cables (2 meter) can be used if they are made with AWG22 / AWG20 / AWG18 copper wires, charging current is exactly the same as when using the official (and very short) white cable.

If the tablet dos not power on, plug it into a charger and press power button for two seconds. 10 seconds later you should see the Teclast logo and an animation showing the battery level. At least now we know the tablet works and has battery charge.

Unplug and press power button, hold the tablet close to your ear. If you hear a high-pitched noise the battery is in one of those “I refuse to work as expected” states. Keep pressing the power button, the noise will change the frequency. After a minute it will stop and the tablet will boot.

One thing I will add, my X98 Pro was crap, and would crash all the time, and now again would get stuck in the bios bootloop, after running the fix (flashes a new bios) this device is like a complete different unit, barely any crashes or hangups atall, I would say, everyone should flash that fix, as it looks like it repairs curropted stock memory or something, Im not too sure, but, I was ready to put it on ebay until I run the fix..

Just working on getting xposed working on it now..

Enable Battery Percent (no root) :

    lollipop

Just install this App and click on “Enable Battery Percent”, reboot. You can uninstall the App afterwards. The setting will remain.

    Download 1.1 b15 :

I can’t download the firmware after X98 pro root therefore my play store continues to crash. During the firmware download I get message “installation aborted” then I need to reboot then tablet works fine. Android without the play store is a drag! I uninstalled the play store and install new version and continues to crash! I am using the teclast pre installed app to download the firmware.

Hi there! Thank you for this good compilation of topics. I do not know what to do with the camera. I have installed Windows Home fresh using the whole drive. My camera is working but only the front one. I have no option to switch to the rear one.

I have installed the 64 bit driver listed here but it does not change.  Any ideas? Anyone with the same?

For the thermal mod did you just buy a bigger copper sheet and cut the heat sinks for the CPU and ram yourself? Is there any trick in cutting the sheets?

    Cheers

    Moe
