If a SSD does not work inside you computer, you can always put her in an external USB 3 case and use your USB 3 port.
I have an external case with velcro sticking to the back of the screen on an ultrabook with no SSD port ( I use it always on my lap, so no dongles sticking out or hanging out.)
There are also ultra flat (10mm) USB 3 hubs what you can use this way to extend with even more memory (see ultra compact usb3 reader or the sandisk ultra fit with up to 256GB).And YES all these solutions are slower than the SSD inside running at 500/500 max – but it still beats the speed of a HDD. (see here)

1981 soldered my first Sinclair computer 1K, tapedeck * 1984 build and sold IBM clones 8Mhz, 512K, 20MB HDD * 2018 messing with ultrabooksFebruary 20, 2018 at 4:34 pm #79630My SSD (Samsung 256GB 850 Evo) intermittently is recognised. After the headaches that caused with trying to run the OS from it, I switched that back to the eMMC and just use the SSD for data now but even that is a pain.
Sometimes Windows detects and sometimes not. Same in the BIOS.
Think I might give up on having it installed in the machine even and just put it in an external USB 3.0 case as Chupa suggests.
February 21, 2018 at 5:36 pm #79705I have the same issue. Kingdian SSD very, very slow and only for data, can’t use it….

I was in the same boat, but some how it working perfectly now. Kingspec SSD
February 23, 2018 at 9:12 am #79746What did you do to correct it?
February 25, 2018 at 2:09 pm #88098I had same situation, i buy 128 kingspec from aliexpress and cant found it in bios or device menager. THE SOLUTION is program “minitool partition wizard free”. Only minitool detect my ssd, i format it and migrate windows from build-in memory and evertyhing works well. You can find tutorials in google how to do this in minitool. Sorry for my english too ?
Your solution worked 100% for me with my KingSpec 256. The minitool and bios tweaks were extremely helpful and allowed me to migrate windows to the SSD. I am seeing speeds 4 times faster than my eMMC, which I’m not sure are accurate but the system feels much quicker. Thanks again for sharing!!
My system previously had the November 2017 locked Bios, which I unlocked with the tools in Giovanni’s post. This was my first step, then I restored windows to stock, installed the ssd, made the bios changes to change drive types, and then did the migration with minitool.
March 1, 2018 at 5:23 pm #112611I have a similar Issue with my DogFish 240gb 2242 ssd…
It’s being recognized from BIOS and Windows (but I had to format it on another pc) but I can’t do anything with it. CrystalDiskMark fails, if I copy a file it’s VERY slow or even hangs… I don’t know what to do.
My EzBook3 arrived today, and it has the locked bios 🙁EDIT: I unlocked the bios (I have a V6) and still nothing, even if changed some settings in Bios etc, the ssd still work super slow and it’s totally useless…. It’s 5 minutes I started the CrystalDiskMark Bench, and still nothing happened…. From Task manager I can see there is 100% activity on the ssd, but, ms are very high (even 2000) and speeds are very slow, it seems work “intermittently”.
I really not know what to do now… Get a refund and find another 2242 ssd will be painful…P.S. On the other pc, the ssd work flawlessy
March 1, 2018 at 6:37 pm #113064unfortunately no…
Did you found a solution? 🙁

No, it does not work yet. I unlocked the bios, but nothing has changed. I don’t understand why it doesn’t work. I will try with some ssd on amazon, at least there are no problems with refund.

That’s what I will do. Ask a refund for the DogFish ssd, and get an Crucial Mx300 2280, I’ll need mod the ssd enclosure but seems that’s the only one that work absolutely without issue on the Ezbook 3 Pro
March 1, 2018 at 8:00 pm #113362let me know if it works
March 9, 2018 at 9:39 pm #140469Well its a new storage device so did you remember to assign it a drive letter in disk management then format it?
March 9, 2018 at 11:35 pm #140471I’m using a Kingspec SSD from AliExpress with no probs.
March 9, 2018 at 11:46 pm #140472Well its a new storage device so did you remember to assign it a drive letter in disk management then format it?
Yes. The problems are: 1) The ezbook finds the kingdian 50% of the time 2) If It recognises the ssd, this is too slow. I can’t test it with crystaldiskmark but It works at 100% every time.
I will try to update the AHCI controller driver like suggests this thread:
March 11, 2018 at 12:24 pm #140497Hello everybody!
Just wanted to add some experience to the issue with SSD and Jumper EZBOOK 3 Pro v6. I bought KingSpec NT-256 SSD from official KingSpec store. I tried it in my home PC, it worked well, and speeds were 560 read, 430 write. But it worked well only on my home PC. As soon as I installed in in Jumper – I started to experience the folloing problems:
- SSD is not recognised by BIOS about 30% of attempts to start..
- When it is recognised – you can’t install Windows on it – process fails at “Copiing windows files” which will last forever and never end.
- I cloned the system from eMMC with Paragon Migrate OS to SSD software – after this I succeeded in starting system from SSD. But again – about 30% of start attempts failed due to SSD disappearing from BIOS.
- When the system starts from SSD – it hangs, because the SSD is always busy at 100% duty, and write speed is next to zero. This can be solved by installing Intel RST v13.2.8.1002 driver. Direct download link. You will need to first install Win RAID CA certificate, and after that manuall update the ATA controlled driver from Microsoft’s to this downloaded driver and reboot. This will allow you to use your system with read and write speeds at about 280 Mb/s. The SATA mode will be only SATA300 instead of SATA600, but again, at least you now can use your system from SSD.
- Apparently, you will get bored by failed starts, and will want to solve the problem once and forever. I tried a lot of things, lots of different drivers, lots of BIOS settings modifications, I even tried some hardware fixes – I soldered the ground directly from motherboard to the SSD adapter, but nothing helped.
And so, here is my solution. Throw you piece of junk low-end chinese SSD away, and install a new one, preferably from some high-end brands, and preferably in 2280 format. To install 2280 SSD you need to remove the back cover of the norebook, remove the plastic black frame for 2242 SSD format (just few screws), optionally – remove the nut used to fix 2242 SSD. I bought Intel 545S p/n SSDSCKKW256G8 SSD. I removed the plastic frame, the nut, installed the SSD into slot and closed the back cover. It works absolutely prefect and flawless since then.
- It is recognised by BIOS immediately and consistentnly, in 100% attempts. No modifications or settings required. And yes – now you can even use the Fast Boot option – it really works well.
- You can install Windows on this SSD with no problems, the copiing of files takes few seconds to complete now.
- The system starts normally, and the stock Windows 10 ATA controller “Microsoft” driver works perfectly with this SSD.
- The SATA mode is 6 Gb/s now, always. Read speed 550 Mb/s, write speed 480 Mb/s tested with CrystalDiskMark v6.
- No more problems, everything is fast and stable, even the installation of the programs and software is faster now, than it was on KingSpec SSD.
Problem solved. If you get the same problems as described above – do not waste your time, throw away junky SSD and buy a good one. Maybe Samsung or WD will work as well, but I personally tested only the Intel 545S.
Good luck to everyone!
